My speakers are 70's era Epicures.
4, M202's:
HUMAN Speakers: EPI 202 information (100 watts each conservatively, 4 or 16 ohm toggle switch)
2, 400's:
HUMAN Speakers: EPI 400 information (200 watts each conservatively, 8 ohm)
I also have a pair Polk bookshelf speakers (model unknown right now) mounted/hardwired in the kitchen, unsure of ohm)
Emotiva preamp:
XDA-2 USB DAC/Digital Preamp/Headphone Amp | Emotiva Audio Corporation | Emotiva Audio | High-end audio components for audiophiles and videophiles, spanning 2-channel music systems, as well as 5.1 and 7.1 home theaters. Products include multichannel
Sound source will be ipod classic running via Bluetooth and/or optical wire.
In the immediate future, only the 202's will be running in 2 adjoining rooms, and the kitchen speakers on as needed.
I've been told here that it is best to have a dedicated amp (even if it is part of a receiver) for each set of speakers. These old speakers LOVE the juice, and I do enjoy listening to it loud, sometimes very loud. Everything from Dave Brubeck live with "Take Five", to George Duke "Reach for It" to Black Sabbath "Iron Man" to Marvin Gaye "Let's Get it On"
To keep things simple, I'm considering individual amps Crown 410's used @ $75/each, but I've been told I don't need separates, but that with proper wiring and ohm consideration I can do the job without the need for multiples.
I've already overspent my goal (Visa) by buying the preamp, but it was something I needed to do considering all of my CD's and all of my other music are stored there for the time being (13,000 songs...100++Gigs).
I've looked on CL here locally Detroit Metro USA, and ebay...but there are so many amp options I'm not willing to pull the trigger (visa card) until I hear from the Audioholics community.
What amp(s) should I be considering?
Thanks!
