My old JVC died, I picked up another through CL, but it heated up after two days of use, and the surround sound stopped working. Prior to it dying, the speakers were popping and then buzzing.

Instead of buying used again, and buying somebody's junk, I want opinions on the Pioneer VSX-xxx-K series of receivers.

The room size is 15X15X9. Speakers are as follows...FL and FR KEF K-140. RL and RR KEF K-120. Center channel is Polk Audio CS10. I don't have a sub or rear center speaker.

Most of the time will be spent using it to listen to the television and watching movies. Multi-room isn't needed, but 5.1 surround is.

My price point is right around $400, which is one of the reasons why I'm looking at the Pioneer. Another reason is the luck I had with them in the past.

What do you guys think?

Well...We ended up getting the Pioneer VSX-822-K by accident, at a really nice price.

Went to Best Buy and looked at what they offered, then noticed that they had a display model of the 522 for $179. We bought it, got home, and realized that he gave us the 822 instead of the 522. I made a call back to the guy, and he told me not to worry about it, and enjoy the deal I got.

I'm used to having much more A/V inputs than this, but the sound quality isn't bad. it's not the best, but I've truly had worse

Before you connect that up you had better make sure there are no shorts or whiskers in your speaker wiring or a failed speaker. If you have you will be back where you started pretty fast.

Thanks for the sound advice...

I have all new wiring in place, in case that was the case last time. I checked the wires prior to hooking the last one up, but they were fine. I checked them after the last one died, and they were fine. The old wires were only 2 years old and not kinked or knotted up anywhere. All connections were done with banana connectors from the receiver out on the old set-up...just like they are now.

I don't think I had anything to do with the last one dying, because it was heating up 5 minutes after getting it home and plugging it up to check everything out...prior to my hooking it up to the speakers in place I have a feeling that what I picked up from CL was having issues prior to my purchasing it.

My wife and I went to Best Buy today, and they had the 1122 on sale too. They had a floor display one, and since newegg has the 1122 for $357, the manager said he would price match. He also said if I was to buy the displayed AVR, he would discount it another $100. So, $257 for the displayed 1122.

I was going to buy it, but my wife noticed I wasn't too thrill with it. She didn't like the idea of spending $530 dollars for the SC-1222-K, but she ended up telling me to go ahead and order it :).

I think you'll be happy with the Pioneer. My last 5 AVRs have been 4 Pioneers and one Onkyo. The Onkyo was the most expensive and worked the worst -- finally broke. I've liked all the Pioneers.
