Okay, here goes!

I want to ditch the two subs I have that are old. One being an old yamaha 75watt and the other M&K 100 watt I think. I have upgraded everything recently with the exception of the subs and I don't think performance wise they can keep up with the rest of my system. I am running the gear and speakers listed below in my signature.
My room is 2008 cubic feet. Not real big. The ceiling is 8' high, not vaulted or anything like that.. and it is downstairs, half below grade, and rectangle, simple.
My primary listening is to music, SACD's, DVD-A's, and concert dvd's. I really want to feel the bass coming from the front of the sound stage (for concerts that is). I emailed HSU sometime back and they suggessted I put a sub directly behind my seating postition. I tested that, and didn't care for it much, it was kicking my ***!
I have read for month's on this section of the forum, been to HSU's site, SVS, and Axiom, and today Velodyne. I don't think I need really deep bass, so maybe smaller woofer size? My thinking is that my subs are so inadequet, and dated that just about anything I do will be an upgrade. But being an audiophile, I really want good, clean, sharp sound coming from the subs.

I thought I had this narrowed down to SVS and HSU, but I checked into some of Velodyne and they have some interesting stuff. I think Axiom is out, they seem more movie taylored ie really deep bass, dunno.

I looked at these:
Velodyne - SC series but I can't find any pricing and they use a seperate amp and just got more confused.
SVS - SB12 Plus
HSU - VTF-2 Mk2 sub

I'm really confused now, and tired considering it's about 2am. One thing to mention is I have concluded I don't need some of the higher end subs from these guys due to room size, correct? I don't want to spend on more then my needs, but I do want to spend for absolute *** kicking bass etc.

Sorry about the long post!

All help appreciated,

Mike

You'd do best to use stereo subwoofers. You could go with any of the good models from the usual suspects, though I would be sure to get at least a 10". If you want to try your hand at DIY, a pair of subs using these would rock your room.

How about the VTF-2 MkIII? It is a 12" sub and it should meet your needs. The MkII I don't think will compare to the SB-12 in output, but the MkIII should best it in extension.
