First post. Anyway, my RX-V1 died. It shuts down right after power up. I thought about just getting it repaired, which may be the cheapest and best solution, but then the bug to buy something new hit.

I don't want to spend a fortune but still want an older flagship receiver. I do have a 1080p TV, but by far the most important thing to me is sound quality. HDMI switching and video up conversion would be much lower on my list.

I've narrowed it down to pretty much 2 receivers. A RX-Z9 and a Maranz SR9600. Other thoughts are waiting for the prices to come down on a new RX-V3900 or RX-Z7. I love the sound of Yamaha and I know how they sound with my speakers, but the Marantz has gotten great reviews and have always been of fan of them as well.

My speaker are IL-60's, IL36C, IL10's, and a IL25C. I'm curious if anyone has paired Infinity spearkers with a Marantz and what people think of my choices? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

You are out of my league with your electronics, so I can't give any informed recommendations between those two units. I just want to welcome you and to offer our assistance in troubleshooting why your RX-V1 might be shutting down, if you are interested.

I can tell you that if you are very happy with the sound of Yamaha I would go with them. Marantz has very nice AVR's though. But if it ain't broke don't fix it is my advice. The Yamaha VX-3900 is a awesome unit. I would venture to say you will be very satisfied with either of these 2 units...:D

Hey Adam, thanks for the welcome. Sure, the receiver was running fine and then one day it shut down and hasn't been able to stay on since. I've disconnected everything from it and let it set for a couple of hours, but nothing. I've even opened her up, but there's nothing I could see that was bad.

Thanks Jamie, you're probably right. The Marantz does intrigue me though and while a lower priority it does have HDMI inputs. I was looking at Ultimate AV mag and the Marantz is at the top of their recommended list. I hate these choices, lol.

A couple of months ago, my Pioneer would not power up. Completely out of the blue. It worked great one day, and the next...nothing. I unplugged it for about an hour - no change. Two hours - no change. I also opened it up and checked all the fuses. I left it unplugged for over a day, and it wouldn't power up.

Here's the strange part to me. I then tried to power it up using the remote (which hadn't work previously either), and it turned on. It's worked fine ever since.

Sounds like yours turns on, but then shuts right off. Might be different, but you could always try unplugging it for a longer period (if you haven't already) and then see if it will come back.

Yeah, I go for the simple solutions. :) I'm not about to recommend disassembling it and replacing one of the resistors. I leave that to the experts on here.

Congrats on getting your receiver running again. I've let it sit for several days and still no go. I did try the remote, but that was no go either. I don't mind a little soldering. If anyone has any suggestions I'm game.

As an interim step...if you want to wait for new top unit pricing reductions, there is a great, reasonably priced, used RX-V2500 over in the Classified section. It's TomD51's, I think. It'll drive those speakers without problem...130 wpc.

Just a thought.

Thanks, Phil.

You almost surely have already been through this, but I read the troubleshooting section of your owner's manual (starts on page 83). The very first item addresses a unit not powering on or immediately going into standby. The only one that I think you might not have tried is the impedance selector switch. You want to make sure that it is completely set to one of the positions and isn't stuck in between.

Almost surely not it, seeing as how it just stopped working. However, probably worth a shot if you haven't tried it already.

This is a very good option for you in the meantime......:D

Yep, I've tried the impedance switch. I've looked at the 2500. You can get them at some very good prices, but this will be a one time buy for me. When I was talking about the 3900 and the Z7. I was thinking about a few weeks when some of the internet vendors offer lower prices or someone has an open box.

One more question for you guys. I understand the Denon owns Marantz. How similar in sound are Denon and Marantz receivers?

Id defineltly check internal fusing. The 1 was a power house with the amp section and if you dont need any reason upgrade dont. IMO if its under 250 to fix and you dont need new features, dont.

D&M Holdings is the parent company. Denon does not own Marantz.

The only two items I know of from each company that are similar, if not exact, are their flagship BR players.

Marantz claims the firmware in their player is not shared with any other player on the market today.

Thanks to everyone who gave some advice. I decided to try the Marantz. The place where I ordered it from has a 30 day return policy for everything except shipping, so I can't get hurt too badly. Hopefully, I'll have it by Friday. As for the V1, I'll probably try to get it repaired. I've had it for so long, I'd hate to part with her.
