Need new loudspeakers for HT

First of all, thanks for this forum! I have learned so much from you all.

Here's my situation: I have a 19' X 22' room for my new HT system with a vaulted ceiling (average height of 11') and a fairly large doorway into the kitchen. I'm looking for a 7.1 system of speakers to be powered by my Denon 3805. I'll probably be getting a SVS subwoofer, either the PB-10 or 12 ISD. This system will be used 70% for movies and 30% for music.

Which loudspeakers would you choose for this combination in this room, with a budget of around $1500 (for just the loudspeakers without the subwoofer)? I've been listening and considering Def Tech, Paradigm, B&W, and Polk Audio. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Of those four, to get the best bang for the buck, I'd look at Paradigm or Polk.

Of the 4 - Paradigm. Polks get pretty demanding if you like reference level volume. Polks do very well with outboard amps.

I'd also consider Acoustech. If you're getting a SVS sub, they may be perfect for movies. (although they only come in piano black finish)

You say you've been listening. Just curious, without input from this forum, which speakers did you prefer? Were you leaning towards a certain brand?
