Hi all!

So last year around this time (well April) I asked you guys for help for a Panasonic A/V and basically it ended up being a junky receiver and not broken. You guys recommend the Marantz SR5004 and it was a great box until today it turn off and is blinking the red dot. It's out of warranty by a week and no one can fix it for cheap so it's going into the trash or ebay.

Now i need A new receiver so I am once again hoping you guys can help me out. That Marantz was magic but I'm a little iffy on buying the same model again so my choices are.

For re-certified models.
Denon 3312CI
Denon 2312CI
DENON AVR-990
DENON AVR-991
Marantz SR5006
Marantz SR6005
+Whatever you recommend under $600

For my hooks is 2x HDMI and 1x compont.
2 x Polk Monitor 50s and
2x Monitor 70s (70s are Bi-Amp)
1x Athena C Point-5 center
1x Sub that came with the Athena setup (its like 500watts).

I would like to keep my setup the same because Bi-amp really gives that extra sound depth (it's not a myth people). But I also have been out of the loop so last i heard the "TI Aureus 32-Bit" sound chip was the best but none of the receivers use it anymore. has it been replaced by something better?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I listen to some DVD-Audio disc and BD-Audio (like the pink floyd box sets and The Pixies). I can normally hear electronics when they are on like a TV, light blub which all give that buzzing sound. That Marantz was the first unit that didn't make much of any sounds so keep that in mind because half the issue with the Panasonic was i could hear it buzzing.

Thanks for your help!

Are you sure the SR5004 is out of warranty? I might be mistaken, but I thought the length was 3-years.
For what it's worth, of the receivers listed, I like the SR6005.

I thought Marantz warranty was now 5 years. I'd check before tossing it.

First of all, I never recommended Marantz. :D

Second of all, I never recommend any refurbished or re-certified AVR from any brands.

However, I can recommend an open box item from Amazon that offers the full factory warranty.

Keep an eye on open box Denon AVR from Amazon Warehouse. Last week there was a Denon 3312 for $461!

I've seen some Denon 3310 & 990 for around $500 there. They never last long. :D

If the warranty has expired..Buy that Denon 3312 for $461.00, research it.
Awsome Deal. look at what Retail was and what NIB on Flebay go for. Amazon has Great customer service on returns. don't think you will need it for this denon, a very stable design.

The receiver is expired because it was a referb and i didn't get the extended warranty so it's only good for a year. My experience with building computers has been if it works for 30 days it's going to work for 10 years. I guess these receivers die quickly if you push them hard because i'm always at 75% volume.

The cheapest i could find a referb Denon 3312CI was $600 and with 5 year warranty for $60 that brings it to $660.. kinda costly so i may have to settle with the Denon 2312CI and forget the pre-outs

On a side note can anyone recommend a good pre-amp because i was looking into a 2 part system last time and the starting costs of pre-amps are $800 than you speed need to get a 5 channel amp that cost $600 alone. I was thinking Maybe spending a little and getting a lot back so if one part dies again I would be out as much money. make sense?

example would be a Marantz MM7055 with a Marantz AV7005

How to you know nobody will fix it for a reasonable price?

It may be just a power supply regulator. If you pushed it hard you may have fried a set of power transistors, but that is not the end of the world.

You likely can fix your Marantz for less than the cost of a new one.

I very much doubt it will cost you the price of a new one $649 to fix yours. And by the way don't put it in the trash.

Trashing a unit if that age and price is wasteful.

I looked too the Good deals are gone. I wanted to go seperates again after my Onkyo 805 HD AVR fried parts several times while it was in warranty. It lasted 18 months. I purchased my Yamaha at BBuy when the new Aventage RX-A1000/3000 Line came out and they were selling the RX-V1900/3900 for 1/2 of retail in early 2010 so I grabbed one and the extra two year service policy. I have had Great luck with the two Yamaha AVR I have purchased, my 2003 RX-V2400(no HDMI) is still working great. I was looking for amps and use the 1900 HD as a Pre/Pro but I moved my system in a very small 10X14 X8' tall ceiling and I realized the AVR whimpy amps sounded great.:) Good luck maybe the AVR can be repaired as TLSGuy posted. I sold my Onkyo 805 for 100 bucks to a memeber here. If you can afford it go seperates. I had tube seperates many years ago but as HT and HD became popular I drifted to AVR's. Good Luck on your search.

I bought the 3312CI today, amazon had it as the deal of the today for $550. As for my Marantz the nearest service center is 100 miles away and they aren't returning my calls. second they want $100 just to look at it. Considering I paid $350 for it I'm just going to craiglist it as broken with 5 speakers i have laying around. I'm sure someone will buy it.

Anyways thanks you guys, But all resreach makes me want a mcintosh but they start at $5,000

You did great!

Things worked out for you.

I already have the 3312 in my family room. Otherwise I might have bought one myself.

Maybe next year when they have the 3313 for $550, I'll get one.

I was really tempted by the 3312, but according to the specs, it won't play SACD over HDMI - I hope that's not what you have planned...or that the specs are wrong.

wait it doesn't support DSD? Crap... , Well I guess I could use the 5 analog cables but I got a super cheap sub $100 SACD player and if it internally decoded the audio it would sound horrible.

Definitely double check that, but it looks that way to me...so I didn't get one.

how can a 3 year old avr support DSD and this does not. way to go Denon but i may end up returning this for a SR5006 since they cos the same.

On the other hand i read you won't hear the difference in PCM over HDMI vs DSD over HDMI to the receiver. Since the AVR still support PCM over HDMI I don't have to use the analog ports. what do you guys think?

I've also compared DSD-SACD & PCM-SACD. And I really could not tell the difference. So to me the DSD is not a deal breaker.

I've compared DSD-SACD-HDMI vs DSD-SACD-DLink4 vs PCM-SACD-HDMI. Just couldn't tell much difference.
