need networking in Denon 3806 type AV receiver

Too many hours shopping. I would an AV receiver comparable to the Denon 3806 (HDMI, etc) that also includes an ethernet port for network connection. Any ideas please?

My first question is what do you hope to achieve with an ethernet port?

There have been a few receivers that have ethernet like the Onkyo TX-NR801 and 901 but they are extremely limited. It's not going to be like having ethernet on a computer with a general purpose networking stack.

If the goal is to stream music to the receiver, you are better off with an external device or connecting the computer directly to the receiver with an optical or coax cable.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I want the enet port so I can stream to any device connected to the output ports of my AV receiver (audio and video). What are some examples of these external devices you mention? I assume it would connect via ethernet to my computer and then from the device, connect to the audio in ports of the AV receiver, right?

IMO, the best of the audio only streaming devices is the Squeezebox2 (http://www.slimdevices.com). The Roku SoundBridge is another one that is getting better reviews now that they have fixed some of the problems with their older models - that can stream audio and video. If you google for 'media streamer' or 'media center' you will find plenty of others.

Yes, they connect to the computer via ethernet and then have outputs that go to the receiver. The Squeezebox has built-in 802.11G wireless as well, but you can use any of the hard wired ethernet devices wirelessly by buying a wireless bridge.

I use a Linksys Wireless-B Media Adapter. Works fine.
