Ok, I've reading, reading, reading... And I only post in the effort that someone can shed some light on my problem.

I've got these Aperion 633-T's and don't get me wrong they're nice but I want something nicer. I think the mid-range is a little flat.

I came across these CANTON ERGO 609 DC set of speakers and was blown away... Issue is: I don't need that much woofer because of the JL Audio Fathom F112, which is insane.

So, what is a great TOWER speaker that is BI-AMP'able, and mainly has a great MIDRANGE ??

Please kind Sirs.

Nick

Ok... scratch the Canton's... I'm liking the B&W Speakers... what a gorgeous look.

Since you have already found what you like and meets your needs, why don't you buy them?

Why the hangup on woofer size if you've found the speaker that blows you away?

Like I said I do like the Aperions, but I don't like the finish... and I don't like the fact that I can't bi-wire them. I just want something a bit nicer, that I can bi-wire. I'm thinking about the B&W's... but also am taking a look at the Paradigm's... It's a toss up. I don't know which is better or will suit my needs.

I dont think you will like the Paradigms if you are loking for something pretty; they are Vinyl veneers

If midrange is what your looking for then B&W is the ticket, they have great mids but thats as far as i'd go,im not a big fan of the B&W sound, they sound anemic & harsh to me.

Not sure what your budget is, but check out KEFs. iQ series (less expensive) or XQ series (more expensive). What B&Ws are you looking at?

Also, why do you need a tower if you "don't need that much woofer because of the JL Audio Fathom F112"?

You know, I've been asking myself that same question about the towers... I don't know, maybe I'm old school, I like the look.

And I keep hearing from people that 'even with the Fathom, you'll lose some dynamics without a full size speaker'... Is that true ?

I'm open... wide open at the moment.

I'm looking at Dynaudio which the company that sold me the Fathom recommended... and B&W... who knows.

P.S. Those KEF's are gorgeous... More research tomorrow...!

I don't know the price range of the speakers you are considering, but the B&W 602 has the best midrange in their price range IMO, about $600ish I think. *do not get the 602.5*. It has much less midrange to my ears and I would choose the 602 if it were my money.

If you really like the Canton Ergo 609's (and who wouldn't), maybe you should think about the Canton Ergo 607's. They have one less 8" woofer driver. They are very similar to my older Canton Ergo 80's that have the same three speaker configuration. They have excellent mid-range and a crisp high but not overly bright.

I like the B&W 703's... and I really like the KEF's, though I can't navigate through their website well, the Q series I believe... and I still come back to the Wharfedale Opus 1's or 2's perhaps. I love the curved speakers...

I still don't know if I'll be ok getting bookshelf speakers on stands with the Fathom... I still hear that I'll be sacrificing some 'full sound' without a tower, even though I the Fathom is kicking.

I also like the Canton's but haven't heard many reviews about them. They seem solid.

Absolutely, the best affordable speaker with great mids are the Ohm Walsh Series. No crossover in the mid-frequency range, the tweeter kicks in around 8/10K. Incredible, open and natural mids. If you want to go the more typical front baffle design, I would also suggest Dynaudio.

Don, I appreciate the comments but I'm just not into the OHM models, no matter how good they sound. But thank you though!!

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the Wharfedale Opus 2's... but I may go the Dynaudio route... The dealer I used for them in St. Pete were very knowledgeable & highly recommended them.

Oh, has anyone dealt with the AtYourService Electronics guy on the web ? I called him on Sunday and he called me back within minutes and let me unload some newbie questions on him. Seemed like a cool cat.

There's been some mixed experiences with AtYourServiceElectronics (ayselectronics.com).

Some have gotten what they wanted, while other's have not been able to get the finishes they wanted. Some have recieved their speakers in a timely manner, while other's have experienced delays or have received speakers with the wrong finish; even though ayselectronics told them the finish was in stock

Basically ayselectronics.com is selling all of Wharfedale's Opus Series clearance speakers. Wharfedale has a new Opus v2 Series coming out in a few months. But the new Opus v2 Series is going to be significantly more expensive; than the original Opus Series.

I suspect much of what ayselectronics is selling is B-stock, leftover stock, demos and returns. Just a theory, on my part. But several people who have bought their speakers from them, have said the speakers look and work perfectly; if and when they finally get the right ones.

As you know nasd90, I have an extra pair of Wharfedale Opus 2 and Opus Center Channel in the piano black gloss; which I have been considering selling, since I now have two pair. I'm keeping the Rosewood gloss for sure (because it matches the furniture better), so the black gloss may soon be sold.

Hey man... I do appreciate the offer again, but I want to buy new. I had a good talk with the AYS guy and he seemed honest. I'm going to roll the dice and then go from there. He assured me they would be brand new, unopened box... I made a point to make it a point this was crucial.

In any case... What's a good amp for these and a the tri-center. I'm wondering if I should get a good 3 channel amp and be done with it eh ?

THANK YOU and any suggestions of course... are very welcomed.

TJMV3,

You know what ? I think you might be right! I spoke to this guy earlier yesterday and he was cool and said he'd get right back to me when he heard back from his 'girl' at Wharfedale or where-ever... but I never heard back from him. I've had a hard time finding companies in the audio industry willing to take my money... I know some of you will laugh, I did too.

So, if I can't get the Opus 2's for a deal I may get the DYNAUDIO Focus 220's. I'm hearing good if not great things about them. I just wonder how a smaller speaker can sound better than most. They're only like 41 pounds (18.7kg) and 8 x 38.5 x 11.6 (approximate conversion). My Aperion Audio 633-T's are 70lbs and 10.25 x 41.5 x 18.25. I like the weight & depth of them, just want something nicer and I don't understand so much how these lighter DYNAUDIO's are going to be that much better. Can someone shed some light ? Pretty please...

:)

Dynaudio makes some awesome speakers! They really do.

But I haven't heard that particular model. So I can't offer anything up on that.

How big is the room where these speakers will reside?

I can tell you that my Revelation Audio Lyra 7 are very similar to the size of the Fous 220 (roughly an inch and a half taller and maybe a half inch deeper) and they utilize two 6 1/2 inch midrange/bass drivers, too. The Lyra uses a down-firing bass port design, while the Focus 220 uses a rear-ported design.

The Lyra 7 do well in mid-to-moderately large sized rooms. I imagine the Focus 220 is in the same ballpark.

You'll need to pull the Focus 220 further from the backwall, because of the rear-ported design. So they'll be a little further out into the room.

The Lyra 7 do very well in my 15' 8" X 13' 3" office. The Opus 2 are too big and over-power this room. But in my 22' x 14' Livingroom, the Opus 2 really breath and shine. Although, the Lyra 7 did not struggle or stumble when I tried them in the livingroom (just for the sake of experimenting). In fact they sounded very, very good. But I imagine in a much larger room the Lyra 7 would probably not fit the bill.

I almost did the Dynaudio but didn't like the rear port and the way the room is setup the HT/Audio System is caddy-corner to the wall. The room is about 25x18 but the back of it opens up into the dining room & kitchen area... there's an 8 foot opening leading into the area of the house.

Lyra 7's are a neat lookin' speaker... but not my cup of Tea.

In any case, I ordered the Wharfedale Opus 2's this morning along with the Opus Tri-Center... oh and Monitor Audio Gold Series In-Walls.. umm... and please don't tell my wife but I also ordered an EARTHQUAKE CINENOVA 5channel.

oops.

That's a big room. The Opus 2 will breath like mofos in there!:D

They are going to love that Earthquake Cinenova amplifier!!! That amp should drive the Opus 2 with ease and get the best out of them. From what I understand, that amp is very smooth. Man, that's probably going to sound amazing!

Invest in a handtruck, that badboy weighs over 100 lbs:D

I'm thinking the Dynaudio Focus 220 would struggle in a room of that size and with an eight foot opening.

What finish did you get the Opus 2?
