Hi, I am new in the ht world and I need someone to explain me the following:
if I have a dvd player hooked to a projector, lets say an 800x600, if I use a video scaler with an output of 1080p, will the projector support it or not?
or do I have to buy a better one with more resolution?
I am deciding between a marantz 7600 and a denon 3010, I have as amplifier a pioneer vx2 and all the speakers are by klipsch.
thanks
et

If you are looking to get a projector the first thing you need to do is learn a lot about projectors and what is appropriate for your room and the setup you are trying to achieve.

If you get a 800x600 projector (VGA) then that is all it will EVER display. Sure, it may accept higher resolutions like 1024x768 or HD resolutions of 720p or 1080i. Heck, the projector MAY even accept 1080p.

But, all it will output, EVER, is 800x600. That is the native display resolution of the projector and it will never be more than that... and it will never be less than that.

You should be buying a projector designed for use in your home theater. This means, a home theater projector. Take a look around www.projectorcentral.com for a few hours. Read reviews, read comments, check the forums, read the FAQs, etc. The bottom line is that a business class projector like a VGA projector, is exceptionally cheap in many regards and won't come even close to the quality of most projectors designed specifically for home theater use.

Think InFocus SP4805, Sanyo PLV-Z4, Panasonic AE900, Optoma H27, at the very least.

Thanks.
I have been reading a lot and my trend is to buy a benq7700 which is a dlp, but - again - somebody told me about the rainbow effect...and so my decision gets a delay...others told me that a lcd will not have an appropriate resolution for home cinema (keep in mind that my room is totally dedicated to the system)...HELP!!!

Read the reviews here as well - LCD not good? Whatever! Panasonic AE900 is a HD projector for home theater use from the ground up. So is the Sanyo PLV-Z4... and the Epson 550. All LCD, all designed 100% for home theater use with 1280x720 resolution! Great value for your money and likely they will be the most popular projectors of 2006.

On top of BMx's input, I would suggest that you consider the upcoming HD DVD formats are almost here. You should wait for them or be ready for them, not buy old technology. 3 chip digital is here in projectors. Prices are coming down. Sony has one that already supports and outputs 1080p for not that much and will project a very nice 100"x56" or bigger.
