My now 8 year old Mitsubishi CRT based 46" HDTV died on me 3 days ago. I hit the power button, the green light comes on, then goes off after 2 seconds. The screen never comes on.
So now I am in the market for a new TV ( was already looking at new dvd player to replace aging denon dvd2800 ). I am kinda torn on the whole plasma/lcd thing. Here is what I am looking at.
* Samsung 50" 1080p plasma ( not sure of the model number, can get it less than $2100 )
* Samsung 46" 1080p lcd ( model LNT4665F, I can get it $30 cheaper than the plasma mentioned above )
* Samsung 46" 1080p lcd ( model LNT4671, can get it less than $2500 )
* Panasonic 50" 1080p plasma ( model TH50PX700U, can get it $2100 )
* Pioneer 50" 720p plasma ( model PDP5080HD, can get it about $2600 )
Set will be used for 40% HDTV/SDTV viewing, 30% dvd ( upconverted standard dvds through a Toshiba HD-DVD player to be bought with the tv ), and 30% video games ( xbox 360 ). I currently sit 7-10 foot away from the screen. The 46" size has been perfect in the 5 different places I have lived since I bought the unit, but being that I can get a couple 50" units around the same price as the 46" lcd's I started eyeballing from the begining, then I figure I may has well step up in size a couple of inches. And with as often as I seem to move, I don't want to get anything that may be too small should I move into a large roomed place at some point.
I put the Pioneer on there because of have been a big fan of the Pioneer TV's ( and indeed all of their equipment ) for about 9 years ( since I began working at a small retail electronics chain that sold their stuff. ). I really wish I could afford one of the Pioneer 1080p sets.
I searched through 7 pages of the forum and read every topic with mention of the tv's that I have listed. Honestly it made me more confused than I was coming in. I had pretty much settled on the getting the 46" LNT4671 as it looks great on the display I saw it on.
Can you guys give me any advice? Even other reccomendations.
