I've listened to NAD T743 and DENON 2106.But living in the great white north I can't just walk into shop and hear OUTLAW 1070? Input would be considered very helpfull!

NAD or Outlaw are usually preferred for their 2-channel music performance and power into low impedence speakers, but any Denon or Yamaha mid-fi receiver should be more than adequate for your Athena speaker system.

Ok! With me having bookshelf speakers (8ohm) I will eventually get floors.My budget is approx $800.00 to a max of $1000.00 where should I look or invest!

All the reading I've done sounds to me Outlaw sells directly online to public. I just want to gauge their sound and proformance to Nad and Denon for starters?

I wouldn't obsess too much about the receiver since IMO it plays a minimal role in the sound quality compared to speakers and room acoustics. The Denon would be just fine since I believe it has pre outs in case you want to add an external amp down the road.

Instead of looking towards spending $$ on floor-standers, you might want to consider standing pat and investing in a great sub instead.

Those Athena's are incredibly efficient and should have no problem deafening you with either receiver and sounding great while doing it.
