Hi..I'm new to this forum and need advice on buying a new receiver. I just purchased a Sony SXRD Wega R50XBR1 and have it hooked up to my cable box using componet, straight to my TV. My cable box also has HDMI option as well as the TV. I want to purchase a receiver that has the HDMI option and will also drive my speakers. My speakers are 2 Klipsh quartets front speakers, Jamo center 100, 2 kef c25 rear and a Jamo SW600 sub woofer. I have a denon AVR 2500 and want to replace it.

I am looking at the Yamaha RXV-1600 http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/receivers/RXV1600.htm the Onkyo TX-SR803http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR803&class=Receiver&p=i receiver.
I also would like any input on my current speaker selection. Would they still be up to standards and will they sound better with an up to date receiver? Is it wrong to have different name brand speakers? Any input on my receiver choices or speaker changes would be appreciated. Thanks

I've found that using different brand speakers sounds okay but it is obviously better to try and match all the front speakers up. Differences between the front speakers tend to show up if you've got a scene where the speech interchanges from the left to right to centre speakers. Any tonal differences will also show up when you play test tones through the speakers.

In my experience, the different amplifiers (40 watts to 90 watts, <0.5 % thd) I've used sound fairly indistinguishable from each other, though I never put my system up to deafening volume levels. Some speakers are meant to be more electronically demanding, like Quad speakers or Bowers & Wilkins speakers, and might require more of the amplifier. Still, I'd bet you'd need to turn the volume up very high to notice this.
