hey you all...

I just cant seem to figure why my Sony s580 will not produce HD master audio?..
Just got the thing yesterday and it all works great, except when I pop in a BD, I dont get an indication of HD audio on my receiver like I did with my last BD player.
I currently have an Onkyo TX-SR608, which is fully capable...and I followed the troubleshooting instructions in the Sony manual and still get no fix from it.

so I'm wondering.. can anyone shed some light on my lack of awareness?

just got off the chat with SONY and they tell me I need to have an optical cable hooked up in order to get my HD audio. I dont find this to be true, considering my Panasonic worked just fine. Could this be an error on thier part or is it a SONY thing that you need an optical cable, even though I am using HDMI across the board?

That is nonsense. The optical cable can not even pass those loss less codecs.

Your Sony player does support them. Make sure your player is set to output bitstream.

It has to support them. It says it does in the manual and the product specifications. Which is why I'm baffled.
This is what the manual tells me to do (& is what I did): The HD audio (Doldy TrueHD, DTS-HD, DTS-HD master audio) is not output by bitstream. then it says; set BD audio settings to OFF in the setup.
I did all this and still nothing. My receiver display still just lights up the dolby symbol and not the HD symbol. Sort of frustrating...

Ok, so for the very few who have read this thread, I figured the problem... and it was a silly one.
All I had to do was check the audio settings on the actual disc and set it to read TrueHD. It was that simple. Man, its amazing how we overlook the small stuff...
