I am in the process of purchasing a home theatre sound system for my apartment and can't decide how to place them.

Here is my dilema. Room size is roughly 16X13 it's a square room. Dead center on I have a main wall where the tv is. I have a side wall on the right hand side, but have some of a wall behind my couch. Not much b/c this is where the stairs come up to my apartment. On the left hand side there is a wall, but there is a sliding glass door that goes out to a balacony.

I am looking to spend under 1000 for a decent 5.1 or 7.1 system. I can do floor standing or bookshelf. I would prefer to do floor standing in the front and everything else bookshelf.

I looked at the def tech pro cinimea from best buy. Even though they are bookshelf I like they way they sound.

I need some advice if anyone has any to throw my way

You gave some good info for the gang to assist you you in your quest. But, a few more questions need to be answered.

One, how long do you expect to be in your apt?

Do you have people above or below you?

What type of amplification are you using?

Now, based upon what you have told us so far, a 5.1 system IMHO, is plenty based on your room size. Being in an apt. you'll be limited on how much you can crank your sub, so I'd be tempted to save $$ there and use just a single 8 inch.

First possibility would be the EMP E5Ti, E5Bi, E5Ci, E10 sub, for $1320. You can save $250 by switching the towers for a second pair of bookshelves. Or, skip the sub.

A second choice is the Aperion 4T, 4B, 4C, and Brauvus 8A sub, together it's $1400. You can change the 4T towers for 4B bookshelves and that will put you just above $1k.

Thanks for the replies. here is some info I can give on the un-answered queestions.

1. I plan to be in this apartment around 6 months to 1 yr, then move to another in the complex when a bigger one becomes available

2. I am on the upstairs unit, so there will be people below me. This does not mean I can't enjoy my stuff. I just have to be respectful after a certian hour.

3. As for amplifcation i am guessing you mean receiver. I am going to go with a nice high end yamaha, denon, or pioneer elite. This will be purchased after the speakers.
