I have recently moved and am looking to upgrade my current Yamaha 5.1 speaker in box setup to a 7.1 setup. I will be buying a new ~ $700 Denon/Yamaha or Onkyo receiver around 100W/channel. I need to figure out what speakers would be best matched for this setup which will be used mainly for movies and tv, with some ipod audio, no SACD.

The room configuration is somewhat difficult since the back wall and side wall are external walls with sloped ceilings, meaning I have almost no easy access to drill holes in the header of the wall to get wires run for an in-wall.on-wall installation. For this reason I think I need to go with in-ceiling or in-wall speakers for the rear and sides mounted in the sloped ceiling (can I mount in-wall speakers in a 45deg slope ceiling?). For the front and center I can go with either in-wall/on-wall/bookshelf/ or tower it doesn't matter for the wife aspect.

The room is rectangular 17'Wx26'long here is a pictural representation .... '[' represent seats. the two front ones actually pointed in for a typical sitting room config.
Also as I mentioned the top and back walls are external with 45 deg slope ceiling where the roof line is.

So what options do I have? Need 4 decent 45 deg slope ceiling mountable speakers for rear and side, what would you recommend?

If it would help I can try and post pictures of the room later.

Forgot to mention budget...... I am no audiophile but I like to get decent quality equipment that will sound good and last. Since these will be in-wall/ceiling mounted I don't mind spending a little more since upgrading latter is more difficult once the holes are cut. I would put a budget at no more than $1000, preferrably somewhat less. Also for my situation what is the benefit of bipole/dipole vs direct for side and/or rears?

Thanks.

The perfect guy for you is a forum member named BMXTRIX. He's really knowledgable about installs and he's very helpful when the mood strikes him. Send him a PM, I don't think he'll mind. As for the fronts and centre just head out to some local audio shops and audition. Any reasonably efficient speakers will sound good with the receivers you are looking at. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
