Need help with some bass issues...

Hey guys,

I got a temporary home theater setup in my da's basement with a Logitech z-5500. However, I can't hear any bass coming from the subwoofer in the back of the room, but if I step 5 paces forward towards the front, then the base is over powering... What sort of room treatment (bass traps etc) do I need in order to get bass to the back of the room, or do I need to add another subwoofer for re enforcement int he back?

The room is L 22' x W 19' x H 10' with a W 2.5' x H 1' duct right through the middle of the room width wise...

The first thing you can do without spending any money is move your sub to another location in your room.
It is either your seating positon or sub location as he said, so moving one or the other will cost you nothing to at least test out.

I tried everything, corner loading, front left, front right I cannot move it to the sides or the back because of the length of the control pod cable. I am thinking of making a new box for the Sub. May be a folded horn enclosure that I have been looking at here. I have been talking to people in their forums to come up with a way to essentially cut that design in half to get a single driver version. I have attached a google sketchup file (google sketchup is free). There are 3 versions of the models in there. The first one is the actual design, the one behind it is what I thought should be the single driver version and the one on the right is what it is supposed to look like for a single driver.

I was wondering, If I could add a second subwoofer to z5500, how could I accomplish this?
I mean a completely sepereate powered subwoofer, how can I get the input signal from the z5500 sub?

It could simply be that the sub in that system simply isn't up to the task of filling that room. I don't know if that system will allow another sub or not. Is the sub powered or is the power in the main unit?

Another option would be to simply try to splice the cable to the sub to get the extra length you need.

This is what the back of the sub looks like...There are currently 2 versions of them, one has RCA connectors for the satellite speaker connections and the other has the 2 wire clamp connections. Mine is the 2 wire connectors but the thing is that the "control pod" decodes all the input connections and sends the processed signals to the Sub via a proprietary connector (which is a modified vga connector). The sub houses the amplifier that powers the 5 channels plus itself. There are no Sub out/in connections. If I wanted to connect another sub, I would have to open up the sub and find the trace that contains the audio signal for the Sub. OR I could find a way to take the amplified signal that goes to the driver, lower it down enough so that it can go to the second Sub as an input signal...I want to add this 18 Hz tapped horn sub to the mix to get the ultimate/cheap theater experience, even if its an odd comb but beats my dads bose lifestyle 28...

Yeah - unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's an easy way to tap into it to allow a 2nd sub. I was hoping that there was some sort of aux out that you could tap into and use the xover on another external sub to cut it off.

There seems to be another way I guess. Since the amp in the Sub is simply an amp, I assume that the control pod sends out anolog signals which we could theoretically use on other amps given the signal is a normal audio signal for each channel...so what I am suggesting is that we hack the control pod and see what it outputs...could this work?
