Need help with replacing my receiver

Hello all!

I have a 5.1 surround system that I got from a friend many years ago (I do not remember much about the system. The system worked for a while and then the sound would just cut out. The receiver unit is an Onkyo HT-RC330. Which I found some other places that mentioned this particular unit having some issues with overheating. I watched a few videos on ways to fix it, but I do not have the tools or confidence to attempt to re-ball the board. So I am asking for what would be a suitable replacement? I have been looking at BestBuy (I live in a rural area and do not have access to stores with better items) and have looked at a few 5.1 systems. I will use the system for gaming, movies, and music. I am not looking at the best unit, but something good and affordable. This is one of the units I have looked at previously, https://www.bestbuy.com/site/yamaha-5-1-ch-4k-ultra-hd-a-v-home-theater-receiver-black/6198554.p?skuId=6198554. I do have a powered subwoofer and since the old receiver had a purple plug for the subwoofer I don't want to spend 300 dollars on another unit that doesn't work. After looking at the new units, I am pretty sure that it will work just fine but I am not knowledgeable enough to know for sure.

Any suggestions about a good receiver or other help would be great!

Thank you!

You could simply choose one from a variety of online vendors and get one delivered, too, BB isn't the only option. The RC-330 I'm pretty sure is from the time (2009-12, the manual dates this model at 2010) Onkyo had issues with network/hdmi boards (heat) and extended the warranty for a few years but that's over. Not even the same Onkyo owners now (Onkyo is now owned along with Pioneer by essentially Klipsch). I have a model from that range (RC-370) that did get the issue right towards the end of the extended warranty period and has worked like a champ ever since their fix.

Does the unit stay powered on long enough for you to run a reset? I'd try that first. Here's the manual https://assets.onkyo-av.com/product-manuals/SN29400567_HT-RC330_En_web_2022-11-02-204354_djhv.pdf?v=1667421834 and the troubleshooting section has the reset instructions on page 43 (you might just go thru the troubleshooting section a bit, too).

The RC330 I believe was primarily sold with one of Onkyo's HTIB 5.1 speaker sets....is that the speaker set you have? Or what do you have?

Costco usually has a nice lower price point avr on sale, too. The Yamaha you linked would be similar to all the major manufacturers in this price point area. You can use this site to look at particular differences between units https://www.zkelectronics.com/

I have done the reset multiple times. The unit does stay powered on but will not produce sound. I could switch between modes and it would come back on, but go off within minutes. I bought it from a friend in about 2012-2013 so it probably came from the sets you mentioned. I assumed I would be ok with any of the units I have looked at, but just wanted a more experienced suggestion. I appreciate your reply.

Probably fried in that case. What are the speakers you have particularly? That is the primary concern for good audio, not the electronics particularly....

The satellites and subwoofer are Bose. They are the units that came in the kit. When the receiver worked it all sounded great.
