Need help with Onkyo TX-SR674 setup

Could someone please point me in the right direction in how to properly setup my Onkyo TX-SR674? I have two JBL E80 front speakers, a JBL EC35 center speaker and a JBL PSW-1200 powered subwoofer.

I just moved and for some reason when using Audyssey to re-setup the configuration my sub exhibits almost no sound. The surround sound is amazing as usual - but the only bass is coming out of the speakers and not the sub. I know that there are some suggestions for manually setting everything up to optimize the system but am lost on how to proceed.

The Audyssey EQ calibrated my system to:

left front -7db
center -11db
right front -8db
surround r +6db
surround l +11db
sub -3db

and speaker configuration:

sub: yes
front: Full Band
Center: 80Hz
Surround: 150Hz
LPFofLFE: 120Hz
DoubleBass: on

Any help would be appreciated.

"Full Band" is the Onkyo terminology for "large," and if you set a cross-over frequency, then you are setting the speakers to "small."

Try setting the cross-over frequency on the front speakers to something around 80 Hz and see if your sub sounds like you expect. We can help you tweak it from there, but I think the first step is to change the front speakers from "Full Band" to an 80 Hz setting.

Thanks Adam,

I actually tried that before and noticed no real difference. Where can i tweak it from there?

You mentioned that you just moved. Perhaps the new room has different acoustics than your old one, or it's a lot larger...or both. However, let's give some things a try.

Please check the settings on the sub itself, if you haven't already (which you probably have). Make sure that the cross-over setting is all the way up. Also, you could try adjusting the phase setting (I didn't look at the owner's manual for that sub, but I'm assuming that it has one).

Also, try increasing the output level for the sub on the Onkyo. You listed it at -3dB. I'd say increase that some and see if it helps out.

Yea - that kind of did the trick. I went from a NYC apartment where I had to keep the sound as low as possible to a large house where I can play it at any level. Interesting how having to turn up the volume and being in a large room changes everything.

Now Im trying to learn how to optimize the settings. When I was in NYC I just left the setting as "direct" letting whatever input the signal was sending to play out. Is that the wise way to go? Im kind of confused with the amount of choices the system gives.
