Need help with new system

Hi all, a newbie here.
I'm building my first HT system and could use some advice. I have a pair of B&W's 602s from my old stereo setup that I plan to use for fronts. TV upgrade will wait for now. So I'm looking at a receiver, sub and sattelites.
I'm trying to stay with a budget of under 1,000.

Thanks

HT upgrade

If you like the B&W's than you should try to stick with matching components. For $1k, the best upgrade step might be an HT receiver and a good 10" or 12" sub for around $500 each. Then you can add the matching B&W center and surrounds when the budget allows.
If you want to go full 5.1, you could get a pair on Onix X-LS bookshelf speakers, matching center, and 8" X-sub for $500 and have enough left for the receiver.

I agree, try to stick with matching components. The other thing I would focus on right now is initially focusing on a nice receiver, sub and center channel if you are trying to really stick to that $1000 budget. Ignore the rears for now. As time goes along and you save up some more, get the rears (or get new fronts and throw your current 602's in back). I guarantee that you'll be much happier in the long run. It'll just take some more time.

since you can't benefit from the surround channels of a new receiver yet,
I would recommend that you use your old stereo electronics with your current setup (tv and 602's) and use your 1000 bucks to buy a subwoofer.

$1000 is a little bit much on just a subwoofer dont you think? Comparing it of course the the current setup.

I agree with what jcPanny said to stick with matching components or perhaps buy the Onix pack with a $500 receiver. Good Advice.

Yeah , $1000 per component is somewhat over budget :)

Thanks for all the recommendations. It seems I was going the wrong way - I was thinking about getting an Athena S.5+C.5 to complement the B&Ws inexpensively.
I guess I'll save up for the center then, wait on the surrounds and get a sub and amp now.
I like the sound of the B&W with my NAD stereo receiver. What would be a good A/V receiver to match with them? And a sub?

I was looking into the H/K 635, pioneer 1015 (maybe 816 is enough?) which seemed to offer a nice feature set at about this price point. I don't think NAD has anything at this price point, do they?

The system is to be mainly HT, maybe 80% movies 20% music or so. Room size is 15'x11', so pretty small, I don't think I need a lot of power, I don't like my sound too loud anyway.

Thanks again for the help.

hehe. just saving you the trouble I went through with upgradeitis.
in that case, get a yammy receiver with the money leftover from buying a B&W LCR600 for your center.

if you look at my setup, you'll see that I don't see it that way :D
my subs are 110% the price of my speakers (all 7 channels) and I'm still trying to upgrade the sub.
