I need help understanding the NAD T775. I am looking at it for my new HT set up. Generally I like the simplicity of the unit and from what I have read and have heard the amplifier is top notch. I am also adding the Paradigm Studio 100s along with the other Studio line. They need good quality power. Not as efficient as my old Klipsch Heresys. What I am concerned with is what I will be missing.

Currently I am set up for 5.1 surround. Could go to 6.1 but do not have the correct room for 7.1. My back channels of audio will always need to be behind me.

Generally speaking when listening to music I am a 2 channel fan. I have tried different sound modes on my Yamaha but do not really like the stadium, concert hall, etc. For me 2 channel is where it is at for music. Maybe my Yamaha RXV2095 is crap or 2 channel is for music. When it comes to movies I will either have my DTV satellite receiver or a blu ray. Agian on my Yamaha I set it up once, found my favorite DSP setting and now leave it alone.

My question is that I read the NAD is a fine reciever but it does not do the decoding of HD Audio. I think for the DTV satellite that is not an issue. However for the blu ray is that an issue? I think I will be buying the Sony BDPS350 which I believe does the HD audio output. I gues through the HDMI? So does this mean I do not care if the NAD decodes it or not? The Sony decodes it and streams it ot the receiver? I have been out of touch since I first got into this when 5.1 was new. I do not know much about the HDMI 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3, HD Audio stuff. If I spend $2400 on a reciever I want good quality 2 channel sound and do not want to miss anything "important" in the movie audio. The other thing I noticed on T775 is it does not have all the DSP modes for moview audio. Like I mnetioned above once i found my favorite on the Yamaha then I left it alone. I guess on the NAD I get what I get.

Please educate me.

You are right, the Sony can do the decoding and send it via HDMI in either PCM or bitstream. If the T775 cannot decode HD codecs (I don't know, you have to read the manual) then you have to set the Sony to PCM instead of bitstream.

Go for it

I have been using NAD 775 for sometime now and first let me so answer your question first. At the moment it does not decode aodio in HD format but according to NAD they will soon release the up grade board.Nothing could match it,s two channel performance and it has enough HDMI inputs. Don,t worry about the unavailability of the DSP. Once you hear the sound of this receiver you will not want to hear any thing else.Make sure you tune with the provided mic and use the Audyssey.Go to this site to do a proper tuninig (http://www.audyssey.com/faq/index.htm)
