I'm looking to get a new set to replace my POS 10 yr old Philips 27" CRT. The set will be for my living room and needs to be at least 40", preferably 45"+. I will eventually move this tv to the bedroom when/if SED comes out.
I'm sure you all are saying what size room, lighting, uses for set, etc., etc. I'm not sure about the room/lighting aspect as I will be moving within the next 1-2 months and will likely purchase a house within the next yr. The set will mainly be used tv(75%)/dvd(10%)/gaming(15%). I understand true 1080p content will not be available in the near term but I would prefer the television be 1080p capable given the length of time I keep sets for. I also would like enough inputs to satisfy PS3/360/HD Cable or DirectTv/HD Tivo (when price drops)/Receiver/etc., etc.
The set will be my next audio/video purchase and will be followed by a new receiver (possibly Denon 4306/Yammy 2600) to go with my Klipsch KLF20s/KLFC7.
So....Couple of questions to pick your brain.....
1) What are the best 2-3 LCDs (40 in+)?
2) Best LCD for the money (40 in+)?
3) Best are the best 2-3 Plasmas (42 and 50 in)?
4) Best Plasma for the money (42 and 50 in)?
5) Which is better between Bravia and SXRD(current and XBR2 vs XBR3)?
6) From all the tvs you listed (including SXRD & Bravia) how would you rank them overall?
I've seen alot of talk about the new Samsung 4296 and the Bravia X series. Im not sure either are worth the inflated price tag given the size of the screen you are getting for your money, which leads me to the SXRD XBR2. However, the XBR1 has a viewing angle that was less than optimal so Im assuming the XBR2 will be similar.
I was all set to go on a Maxent/Visio plasma but I game frequently and watch alot of CNBC, not to mention I leave the TV on for extended periods of time so burn in steered me away from this area.
I think SXRD looks good but I was hoping to eventually move this set into the bedroom, possibly on a wall (not an absolute must but preferred) which isnt happening with the SXRD size.
Then I was sold on the Westinghouse but realized its color gamut was much less than competing LCD's and it also lacked any form of tuner (preferable). However, it is still a nice set and I'm not sure the other LCD's (Samsung, Sharp, Sony) are worth twice the price.
Any input is greatly appreciated as always.
