Hey guys! First time poster here. I found this forum via google, and figured a forum of audiophiles might be able to give me some assistance with my newly purchased Turtle Beach Earforce DPX21 headphones, in getting them to actually use the DD 7.1 on my PC as opposed to the PLIIX analog only sound.
Now, normally the headset is supposed to just be plug and go with something like the PS3 and the 360, and it really is just that simple. I plugged it into my PS3, went into a game, and it went straight from the PLIIX it was on in the menus to the DD 7.1 once in game. Very fast, very easy, VERY nice. :>
However, when I went to use it on my PC (which was the main reason I got them honestly), I hooked everything up properly, and went into the sound settings (win7 ultimate 64x) and set the optical out to the default speaker as you're supposed to, and the sound came right on through via the SPDIF connector.
However, for some reason, regardless of following all the instructions, the headsets DSS (the little sound emulator it comes with that everything hooks into) is just stuck on PLIIX analog mode, as if I was using the analog cable and not the SPDIF cable!
Now, these headsets have no drivers/firmware, and nothing to update/fiddle with really, as they're simply a plug and play device. Sooo, im stumped here. :/
I mean, the Analog mode PLIIX still sounds freakin amazing and all, as does the stereo mode.. and the Bass levels are outta this world.. But I paid $160 for 7.1 simulated sound, not just stereo/analog which I coulda paid $64 for the little brother version of these headphone instead!
So yeah! That's my situation with these rather expensive and awesome sounding headphones. Stuck being held back by a little blue light in a DSS sound emulator that refuses to shift gears from third to fouth. :<
Anyone here by chance have any experience with this stuff? Or maybe know how to remedy the issue?
For some specs and info on my system to make this easier btw, I have the following as my setup:
Core I7 920 @3.6Ghz CPU
12 gigs Corsair Dominator DDR3 Ram (in tri channel)
EVGA GTX295 Video Card
EVGA X58 Tri SLI mobo
1200 Watt Silver Stone PSU.
Win 7 Ultimate 64x
and my two sound cards that I have available to me that I tried the heatset on are the Sound Blaster X-FI 5.1 surround sound USB sound card, and my integrated Realtek 7.1 surround sound card.
and btw, one other thought on the possible issue, would be that the stuff im listening to simply isn't 5.1/7.1 dolby digital stuffs that could be decoded by the DSS.. Because I just listen to MP3's on my comp, and play Starcraft 2 and stuff, so I don't really know of or have any guarenteed 5.1-7.1 sources to try it out on. :/
Appreciate any help/advice anyone may have in advanced btw guys. :>:>:>:>
