am putting together a home theater system complete with new receiver (Rotel RSX-1067), speakers (Speakercraft AIM8 Fives), wiring, amps, subwoofer (Definitive Technology Supercube Reference), and big screen television (65" Diamond Mitsubishi). I am purchasing this from a specialty audio & video store. A question the guy at the store asked me was "do you need a new DVD Player". He told me about this one (Marantz DV6500 Progressive Scan Universal DVD Player | $649.00). He told me there is a big difference in picture quality using this DVD Player. I was like WHAT? $649.00. WOW. I thought DVD players where cheap. I have a DVD Player that I purchased from Best Buy about a year ago. IT's a Toshiba SD-3800 Progressive Scan. I think I paid like $179.00 for it. And I thought I was paying alot when there are DVD Players for $69 bucks out there.
So my question to everyone is. Anyone know anything about DVD Players?
Will I see a difference watching a DVD in picture quality? Is this worth it?
Thanks

He ASKED you if you needed one? I thought that they were programmed to TELL you you needed one!! LOL :D The differences in the video quality of the upper end players can be dramatic! The sound is where they are not necessarily all that much better. Given you are upgrading like you are and not knowing if you have a universal player, you may want to be sure that if you do upgrade, you get something that will play SACD and DVD-A. Also, if you do upgrade please consider the Denon units (2910 or 3910) as they are HIGHLY recommended by many on this forum. Having said THAT, you may want to spend less (as I did) on a universal player knowing that BluRay and HD DVD is coming later this year. So you see....

Clear as mud! :)
