I am looking at completely getting rid of Dish, and just stream shows and movies over the internet through Blu-ray player that is attached a Denon X2100 receiver. I am looking at getting a Digital Antenna (Mohu Leaf) so I can get the local stations over the air. Is it possible to hook this up to the receiver and go from there or do I need to do something else in order to get those shows to play through the speakers.

Thanks.

Hi. You'll need to connect the antenna to a TV tuner, so connecting it straight to the Denon won't work. If your TV has a tuner (almost all do), then you'd hook the antenna up to the TV and then run audio from the TV to your receiver.

there is a HDMI cable running from the receiver to the TV for the CD Player and Blu-ray. Would that work or would I need to run an optical cable from the TV to the receiver.

I was on my phone earlier and didn't see that you'd just joined - welcome to the forum!

The HDMI cable will work if your TV also supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). Otherwise, you'll need to run the optical cable.

If your ditching Dish, be careful, some of these sat providers like to stick it to leaving customers, such as attaching bogus cancellation fees and penalties, etc. If there is a dispute over charges owed and you’ve been set up to automatically paying your monthly bill with a debit or credit card, they will just politely take the money out of your bank account or charge your credit card. The only way to avoid this is to cancel the cards and apply for new ones, and do it before you give them the “goodbye” call. Of course the next thing they will try to do is ding your credit report.

You can certainly get TV shows like alphsig mentioned by connecting your TV to an antenna, but if you’ve been using a DVR with Dish you might want to consider getting a TIVO. They have models that will connect to an OTA antenna and record broadcast TV shows just like you could with the Dish DVR, for a small monthly fee. This is what we did when we cancelled DirecTV a few years ago. With the TIVO subscription along with Netflix and Hulu, we’re paying about 1/3 monthly compared to what we were with DirecTV.
