Have any one by chance know how setup an external amp for the front main speaks on the Denon X6500h. I had try to go to setup, amp assign and couldn't not find any options for the front pre Amp. But the on the back panel do have all the pre out for all channels.

Thanks,

The pre outs are always "live" so you don't have to use the amp assign function.

While the pre-outs are always live, if you want to stop the internal front amps from receiving the music signal you would use amp assign. You may need to assign all 11.1 channels (even if a speaker was not attached) before the Front pre-out option is shown on the TV screen.

Once front pre-out mode is selected then the front amps won't receive the music signal and can't distort even at higher volumes.

If you use the pre-outs without the front amp assign pre-out mode at lower volumes you should not notice a difference.

Just plug your amp into the L/R pre-outs and re-run Audyssey or your manual calibration to incorporate the external amp. As was mentioned, no need to go into amp pre-assign. If you're running two ch only you could do as vmps mentioned and turn off the current to all the on-board avr amps if you want more pre-amp "purity" (but not likely audible).

In the owner's manual, the manufacturer doesn't mention preouts except for a subwoofer. I viewed a picture of the back of the unit and I only saw the one for the sub.
All the recent Denons above the 3xxx level have a full set of pre-outs. Picture of the back of the 6500, with the pre-outs labeled across the three zones in a white background box, somewhat in the center of the back panel

The 6500 has a full set of pre-outs.
I had another look at the back of the unit in the owner's manual. I was mislead because Denon don't mention all channel pre-outs in the list of features or connections.
I deleted the previous post. Thanks for the correction.

I glanced at the manual, it doesn't spell out the pre-outs in the specifications section but I don't think it does in my Denon manual either. I assume it's confirmed in the amp assign section, tho (but I didn't look ;) ). Easier to look at the Denon page for the avr and using the specification tab and the input/output section....https://www.denon.com/en-gb/shop/avreceiver/avcx6500h

A bit late on this, but wanted to chime in as I'm adding external amplification for the front stage using the same receiver. Forgive me if this is a bit of a "noobish" question, but I'm always trying to learn.

To be clear, as far as amp assign goes I will leave it set to 11.1, and the receiver will automatically adjust to route power to the 8 speakers that are still plugged in and send a signal to the external amp to power the front three speakers. Is that correct? Or are the internal amps for the front stage still active and wasting power instead of adequately distributing it to the remaining 8 speakers?

Thanks.

How about a bit of both? The pre-outs are generally always live. In most Denons all the amp channels still receive juice, even if using a pre-out, and are affected somewhat by that in measurements. I'm a bit rusty on which Denon does what with pre-amp assignment "purity" for the L/R or all channels, but IIRC mine (the 4520) only has the option to cut the speaker amps out entirely in "pre-amplifier" model. The 8500 can do it on any desired channel IIRC. Some only do it for L/R channel. @PENG I think may know off the top of his head....or maybe we should start an updatable thread on various models from Denon and Marantz and their capabilities in this regard? The question is asked frequently enough it seems.

I certainly don't worry about it when I hook up an external amp, tho.

Not sure how the "B" speakers figure in this, tho, never used that option....how are you using it?

ps Never mind about the "B" speakers....it's an "8" :)

Thanks for the response.

Right now I've got it set up as a 7.2.4 using nothing but internal amplification from my Denon x6500h receiver. The plan is to put the front three speakers on an Emotiva XPA-3. I just want to make sure I'm understanding that there's nothing in the amp assign that I need to change, as well as whether or not this is going to positively impact the amount of power being sent to the remaining 8 speakers still hooked up directly to the avr.

The amp assign you're currently using should work fine by just adding your external amps and re-running audyssey/setup to incorporate. Offloading the front three channels would reduce demand on the power supply generally, tho. AFAIK the power to the speakers via the amp terminals isn't limited by the pre-amp assign.

So the amp isn't continuing to allocate the full amount of juice to speakers that are no longer there. Got it! Thanks again.
