Hello all

I'm very new to the audio world and need help concerning my new buy. I want to buy 1 of these pair for my computer

Dayton BR-1
or
Infinity Primus P162

Anything better for the same price?

Dayton are DIY and I'll certainly have a lot of fun with this kit.. Ive heard a lot of good things about these speakers, am I wrong? Mostly buying these for computer games + music + movies.. immersion for me is important. So now I need to find a receiver for the monitors.. what do I need to buy .. I know nothing about receivers and would like to learn more..

thanks for the help :)

A budget would be useful in helping you create a bookshelf stereo system, but if you only plan on ever using this system with your computer, you could also consider monitors from M-Audio and [only if necessary] a sound card upgrade.

are you staying with stereo ? or plan to go 5.1 etc ? either way craigslist will get you plenty of receiver for a small system, for not much $$.

I'd throw the Behringer Truth 2030P in there as well. I've got a pair of these guys and am VERY happy with them. I've had the BR-1's too, and I like the truths a little better.(link in smiley!)

I dont think I'll go with self-powered speakers such as M-Audio AV 40 or Swan M200MKII.. They require a good soundcard and for the same price I can get Dayton BR-1 + used receiver. My budget is around 250$. I know someone from another forum who has both Dayton BR-1 and M-Audio AV 40 and for approx the same price there is a huge difference.. Dayton has 6-1/2" woofer and can give better louds I think (43-18,000 Hz)

For the moment I'll go with Bookshelf + used receiver and will add eventually a subwoofer when I'll have more money :p I won't go for a 5.1 I just dont know what kind of used receiver to get :/

Thanks for the link :) these monitors look good but you have to explain me something..
Behringer frequency response -- 75 Hz to 21 kHz
Dayton BR-1 freq response --- 43-18,000 Hz

can we say I'll have better "bass" with dayton?

I don't wanna say that specs dont lie, but I dont remember the Dayton's having much better low end extension... Probably a bit... I listened to both a lot without a sub, but used them primarily with one. Either choice is well suited with some kind of sub down the road. Even without a sub I like the behringers much better and dont remember wondering where the low end was. I guess without physical measurements I cant substantiate that claim, but for me, it is what it is..

That sucks. I knew about the 2030P's when I bought my BR-1's but forgot that I knew. The BR-1's are pretty inefficient and 80 watts per channel is recommended. I paid $165 to get the BR-1's here. I bought a soldering iron and need to get a hot glue gun and need to get a clue about soldering. I'm fine with all that but I understand the 2030P's are outstanding and I had my sister get four of them not long ago for about $150 per pair. If you do get the Behringers, WmAx has posted some easy modifications to make them better. That's the way I would go if budget was a concern.

Thanks for the advices guys :) But now what used receiver do I need to choose? One with 100W per channel with a Digital Optical x 1 for the S/PDIF so I can connect it to my computer? Ive found 2 used receivers (cant post links yet) JVC RX-6010 and Yamaha RX-V793 can they do the job?

I'd pick the Yamaha on GP and because they make good motorcycles.
