Newbie at home theater and need help hooking up components. My equipment is yamaha rxv2500, denon CD, samsui DVD/VCR, and a 5 year old Philips 32" TV. There is no cable box/sat box. I have basic cable (apprx 72 channels). Speakers are polk rti4, csi5, and psw12 sub. The question is what exactly would be the ideal cable hook up to the receiver with the equipment listed. The tv supports one S-vid cable and the sets of audio composite inputs, I believe. The dvd/vcr also supports s-vid and also optical and again composite and I believe component outputs as well. I would like to get some feed back before I got to Bestbuy and lay down a lump sum on something that is not needed. Thanks for any and all help!!!
Don't rush out to buy expensive and needless cables
Where you connect the cable TV line depends on your need to record TV programs or not. If yes, hook it to the VCR and a RF cable from it to the TV.
If your receiver supports S-video switching, on the back you'd have S-video in and monitor out, hook up those two video to the receiver by s-video cable and one from the monitor out to the TV.
DVD digital audio to receiver for surround sound processing. VCR analog to receiver for Dolby prologic processing and perhaps TV programs that are in Dolby surround. For the latter though, you will have to have your VCR on and most likely on ch 3.
CD digital to receiver as well.
The optical cable connection is for digital audio, just in case.
You may want to visit Radio Shack for their cables, WalMart, Target has cables as well, on line or the companies cooperating with this site like Blue Jeans.
