I have been reading these boards trying to get a grasp on what speakers to buy. I was thinking of going with athena f2 or f1 with the c2 p6000 and R1 or bookshelf speakers. My delema is should i get the f1 or f2s and everyone i read about does not use the r1's and i was wondering if there is any reason why. Right now im living in an apt but in about 6 months plan to move into a house and i want to get a package i can make last for a few years. This will be used mainly for TV and not as much music because if the radio is on its on AM anyways. Any imput would be greatly appriciated.

Well, if I read your post correctly...

I think the reason I, and prehaps other Athena users, don't go for the bipolar (dipolar?) R1's is that the diffuse soundstage presented by them is great for the mono, amorphoric type of atmospheric sounds that DPL was capable of, but DD and DTS are discrete formats and produce a focused, directional sound.

Additionally, a direct radiating speaker (their b-1 and B-2 bookshelves) produce a distinct directionality that's needed for multi-channel music.

I'm prety sure if you wantthis diffuse type of sound from your surrounds they will do he job at least as well as others and will acoustically match the rest of your Athena system.

As for their subs, well, while I like their towers nd bookshelves and think they offer great bang for the buck, I think you can do better by looking at the offerings of manufacturers that specialize in subs like Hsu, SVS, Velodyne and the like.

thanks for your imput that makes since about directing the sound. Do you know if f2s would over power the center at all??

Assuming you're talking about the Athena C-1 center channel, iand you balance the channels properly, it's not an issue. Most dialog is channeled to the center channel only. I use the F1's and don't have a problem and, aside from more bass on the F2's, they are very similar.
