I dont think this is where this question goes but here it is. A friend of mine is looking to get a DVR but is having trouble finding one with Componet IN. The reason he wants componet in is because thats the best connection from his cable I think. Anyway Im sure he dosent want to spend HUGE amounts of money. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Sean

Have him talk to his cable provider. A cable DVR must be configured for a cable service encryption because the DVR is also a STB.

That is 100% of the reason why I won't get DVD recorder or other stand alone digital recorders. Though, I imagine there is a PC capture card that may do the trick, no stand alone DVR can record HD or has component inputs.

Cable boxes with built in DVR will cost an extra 10 bucks a month - compare that to a $300.00+ recorder and that's about 3 years worth of product. By then it'll be time to upgrade anyway!
