untill this time i have always known that a 1/8 minijack cable had 3 lines, 1 for left, right, and a return line. I have recently bought a 7.1 sound blaster and it only has 3 outputs when there should b 4. when i asked y this was they said that two of the cables supported 3 speakers (black--rear l/r and left centre) and yellow (centre, subwoofer, and right centre). can ne1 explain this to me and if so tell me if theres any possiblility of being able to splice some wires to make a 7.1. naturally i am too cheap to pay for a set of decent speakers so i bought several good speakers and now cant hook them up. thanks in advace

The #6 & 7 chennels are matrixed if my memory is right, so 5.1 output will work if you had a 7.1 speaker set, which had the matrixing decoder.

The outputs are usually as follows, though not in this order:

1) FL & FR
2) RL & RR
3) C & SUB

as far as the LC and RC channels, again I could be wrong, but I think those are martixed channels. Think dobly pro-logic when thinking of matrix surround.

i was actually able to answer my own question with about 2 days worth of research. appearantly the matrixed sound channels are split into RR RL and the L+R and L-R are for the right centre speaker. the same goes for the right centre. thx for the help neways

1 last thing, if u have a 5.1 encoded card and want 7.1 without a set (aka me) look into getting the creative 3 stereo end to 4 stereo end cable. it does the trick :)

ahh, cool beans!

I'll never go with anyhting.1 on my computer though...I'm a headphone fan for my games...and my neighbors give me plenty of smiles over it too, especially since I'm a night gamer :)
