Need Help w/ Bedroom Speakers-Music

I'm looking to buy a pair of big speakers for listening to music in my bedroom. I don't watch a lot of TV or movies, so I'm not looking to buy the extra speakers, subwoofer and stuff (even though i know it might make the listening experience better)

I listen to mostly Rock/Grunge and Metal (thrash, death, black, metalcore, hardcore, etc). So I need speakers that handle the highs and mids well and without over-doing the bass.

My budget is $300. I know it's low for just speakers, but it's all I can afford for right now. I'll appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!!

With no subwoofer, you will want to get a tower speaker, if you have room for it. but for $300, you don't have a lot of options for tower speakers. I think your best bet might be these guys, if you can stretch your budget out just a little bit. I think they will be able to blaze without breaking a sweat, and should have good bass down to the 40 hz range. Outside of that, I would look for some used Klipsch KG speakers, they can absolutely blaze, and your ear drums will break before they ever could.
