Need help upgrading from Harman Kardon AVR-635 for Atmos, etc...

Hello guys!
I have been extremely happy with my HK receiver since I bought it now like maybe 8 years ago from a member of the now dead AV123 forums.
Now I have 3 subs currently (two HSU VTF-15 and one MFW15) all positioned nearfield behind my couch as I just love the impact you get...just makes a more thrilling for me personally.
So considering this, I would like to get a new Receiver with room correction to "fix" any major issue with the frequency response currently.

Also, I want it to have all latest features like Atmos, DTS-X etc so that it can decoded the audio from my HTPC as currently I am having my HTPC decode the audio and since I am pushing it very hard with MPC and features from MADVR and SVP, it will be nice to at least offload some of the processing to my Receiver.

And since I will be getting a new receiver, I am considering Atmos and the likes but not sure how much benefit it provides for a low ceiling room like my basement which is just around 8' tall. The basement is unfinished so I have the beams where I can attach a small speaker I suppose if you guys think this gives a nice experience overall.
Of course that will beg the question..how many speakers will be ideal...go for a 9.2 receiver or 7.2.
Currently I am running 7 speakers...a sort of Frankestein system of Rockets RS 760s and Bigfoot for fronts/center.
Then some Mission big bookshelves as side speakers (to be replaced soon by Rockets RS 150s) and then ELT525 bookshelves for rears.

Sometimes when looking at new receivers I feel a bit worried about their power and weight. I am from the old school I guess of receiver weight meaning POWER! Mine weights around 43lbs and many budget receivers are almost half that only. Mine does 75Watts ALL channel driven not like they list them these days.

My room is an almost open basement with some acoustic treatments from GIK acoustics.

And finally budget...well I started thinking to shoot for $300 only but then realized I am looking more realistically at 500 or 600 but used/refurbished is an option for sure.

Please let me know what you think and if photos etc are useful.

Regards

D&M's X4100W seems to be your best bet if you want the best room eq that can do a good job on setting up your subs. It weighs under 30 lbs but will output about the same as your 635. You will likely have to up your budget even for a refurbished unit.

I saw a local selling the Onkyo 809 for $200 but looks like aside from power its missing the newer calibration and of course no Atmos although I am not so sure how much Atmos really matters. Still, if I am going to be upgrading, I may as well do it fully.
