Need Help trying to Bi-Amp 3805

I am a new member and find this forum to be very helpful. I have conducted a couple of searches and could not find an anwer to my question.

I have followed Gene and Hawks instuctions exaxtly and I am having problems. Now, my front speakers only have sound coming from the tweeters. The sound is empty and shrill. The bi-wiring to the speakers only has sound coming from the high jacks...

I have a couple of questions....

Once connected, does the RCA cables remain in place after setup of the bi-amp to zone 2?

Do I need to recalibrate the 3805 using the mic again, after bi-amp setup?

What am I doing wrong?

Do I need to do something else in order to get zone 2 to work?

Can someone produce step by step instuctions? I am missing something?

Thanks for your help!

You'll need to adjust the Zone 2 volume to about +2dB...this is where most people have found the balance btw lows and highs to be correct. You also need to re-assign the Zone 2 amp section through the System Setup menu. You will need to leave the RCA cabling in place...this is how the Zone 2 gets its signal. I would recommend re-calibrating after bi-amping.

Good Luck!

Thanks Jason,

I think I might have identified another problem. When I assign the power amp and select zone 2 it removes the Zone 2 volume level from the choices in the setup menu. If I select surround back or Zone 3, it shows the Zone 2 volume level from the setup menu.

This makes no sense. Any ideas?

Yes, you are correct. Select zone2 and "DO NOT" worry about the missing zone2 volume level in the set up menu. Exit the set up menu. Pick up your remote, select zone2 and press source on. (that will turn zone2 power on) then use the remote to turn up the volume on zone2 (zone2 volume is defaulted to -75 or something and the only way to adjust it is with the remote) to about +2 and you should be in buisness.

Thanks Guys, that did the trick. However, I have a slight hum at +2 in Zone 2.

Any ideas on how to get rid of the hum?

Also, I used the mic to recalibrate and I got drastic differences with it versus using a SPL meter. The SPL has the volumes at each speaker a lot lower than the Mic settings. Strange.....

I am not sure what will be better setting. I will monitor closely and see what sounds better....

Did you move the RCA's to the zone2 pre outs? I noticed a hum when I did this too. Keep the RCA's hooked up to the L R front pre outs.
