Here is what i have :
1) a PS3
2) a SamSung 40A750 ----40 inch, serie 750
3) a Insignia 5 disc DVD Receiver , 1000W ,60hz , model number : IS-HTIB102732 (can't find the remote for it). This has 7 speaker hook up (2 front, 2 back, 1 centre, 1 subwoofer and 1 surrounding back speaker abit further away from the other 6) , 2 set of audio/video in, 1 tv out, 1 s-video out, 1 rec out, 1 component/progressive video out, 1 coaxial in + 1 coaxial out (1 hole each) and 1 active subwoofer out.
4) 5 small (cube-like) panasonic speakers including : centre, front right & left, surrounding right & left
5) 2 tall panasonic speakers
6) 1 Bose acoustimass 5 series 3

PLease tell me the best way to set this up for a home theatre (video + audio wise)
p.s. i tried to put everything together, everything works. But it feel just like normal various speakers put together. When i try the home theatre test on youtube through ps3, only the 2 fronts and the bose work, the rest don't. Thank you !

If you know all the speakers are physically hooked up properly and you can hear sound from them, it's probably a set up issue rather than a connection issue. You will probably have to use one of the sound fields like PLII-x that creates an artificial surround sound from a stereo signal.

The Insignia is your real problem. It is light years behind in technology than either your TV or the PS3. Ideally, you will use HDMI from the PS3 or if not, component video and optical audio. None of these are supported by the Insignia. If you ran HDMI from the PS3 to the TV then ran either digital out or stereo out to the Insignia, then you are only delivering a stereo signal. Many TV's will downmix their audio output to stereo.

Did you just buy the Insignia and if so can you return it? It is the weak link and it's connectivity is minimal and outdated. If you can replace it with an inexpensive receiver and DVD player, preferably HDMI equipped, you will be light years beyond where you are now and set up and functionality will be greatly improved.

So i should get a better receiver you suggest, the one with HDMI ? should i get sattelite (wireless ???) speakers ? someone is selling 5 of them for $60. Should i get that one. then get a good receiver ? thank you !

This is a good time to examine your goals, expectations and budget concerning A/V equipment. I can say with some certainty that the Insignia unit outlived it's usefulness as soon as you brought the PS3 and new display home. I can't tell you how to proceed from here.

Normally, one would begin upgrading a system with new main speakers and move the existing speakers to the surround or rear positions. In your case, you already have a number of speaker to use but no way to use them properly. A new receiver is the first order of business, IMHO. Before you just run out and buy one, it's best if you had a goal and plan to build the system you want to end up with. This will also be extremely budget dependent. There are a wide variety of features and price ranges on equipment these days and there are bargains to be had on the used equipment market if you are willing to go there.

One good way to see what you want and what could be had for your budget is to browse the Members Systems Gallery forum of this site. There is a wide variety of systems and budget levels for you to browse there and see what you like and can afford. Here's a direct link to the systems gallery.

small room

hey, thanks for the detail answer. well my room is really small, it's around 2-3m wide, and 3-4 m long ( maybe abit smaller :p). So i won't need that much power right ? as long as it does the surround job ? thanks
