What are you looking for in a receiver/pre-pro? Hdmi video? HD Audio?

Also, what kind of rear speakers and what center channel are you running?
Yup I am definitely looking for HD Video and Audio :)

And as mentioned above a multi channel pre-out support.

As of now, I will only be using the 2 front tower speakers. Will add the center channel and a sub-woofer about 6-8 months down the line.

It was under 1K :) But i stretched it about 500 bucks more in order to start with a better setup and then expand from there :)

Or as another option should I bypass the AMP and go for the Yamaha RX-V3900??

It will cost be me around 1300 if I just buy the receiver. Also it claims to have about 145W RMS so that should (Hopefully) suffice with respect to driving the 683s???

The 3900 is an excellent receiver. I own one. For now, that may be your best option. When you add a center and the surrounds, the receiver won't be able to provide 140 watts/channel. As you put more strain on the receiver you'll have to turn up the volume to get the levels to where you want them. As you do that, distortion will increase, degrading your sound quality.

I'd say the 3900 would be a good option now and when you add your center and rears, buy either an Emotiva XPA-3 and use the receiver to power your rears or if you have the extra money and want good 2 channel stereo, buy the XPA-2 and power your center and rears with the 3900.

I beleive I am all set now to pair 9300 with B&W683s :)

Thanks all for helping me out on this :)

A last question though...

What kinda wires do I need to buy in order to connect these speakers?

Try to make a deal with this forum member on his Onkyo 906 that he's selling.

With this receiver, you will not need a separate amp, plus you will get arguably the best consumer available video processing and a number of other highly desirable features. This is the flagship model in the Onkyo lineup. Contact him and see if there's a deal to be made.

cables

I spent a small fortune on cables. Everything I have read since then makes me feel stupid and that I paid too much, and I got a deal. Gene, the head of this site really likes impacyt acoustics sonic wave speaker cables. I'm considering ordering a set with spades to bi-amp my front and center speakers and running them to my top binding posts. I have Audioquest Rockefeller cables now and while they sound good, and I got a good deal off retail, probably overpaid.

For interconnects, HDMI, Digital Coax and Opticals, look at Bluejeanscables.com. people here seem to love them. They also do speaker cable.

As far as having one receiver to do all your work, separates is always going to be a better solution. No receiver, other than the high high end British receivers can live up to their power ratings with all channels being driven. You are relying on one box to do your amps, processing, video switching, etc. A sepearate Amp is always your best option for clear, and controlled sound, especially for your main speakers and music.

Hope this helps.

I agree that's why I am currently getting the receiver to only power my two front speakers and then once I decide to add the center and rears, i will buy a separate amp for the front speakers while drive the rest with my amp itself :)

The 683's are really nice speakers. I own B&W 802's with a HTM1 Center and SCMS Rears. I love B&W gear. Your 683's can handle up to 200 Watts at 8 ohms, when you decide to purchase an Amp, I would likely stick to the XPA-3 or an Amp that doesn't drive much more than 200 watts/ch. B&W speakers will dip down below 8 ohms and when then happens, the Amp's power will increase. If you buy an Amp that's too powerful and are listening at really high levels, you could damage your speakers. Your receiver will perfectly power an HTM6 Center and rears from B&W in the 600/700 line.

The XPA-2 may be too much juice, but I'm no expert in this area. It sounds like you are compiling a nice system though, so congrats.

If you are buying your speakers new, you may want to consider the pre-owned market and see if there are 700 series B&W available in your area. I purchased my 802's for $4,000 a year or so ago and it was a great investment. They retailed for almost 10k new and I am amazed everytime I listen to them...

Good luck.

But I am keeping an eye open for them too :)
