hi all!! i have decided to get myself a good home theater system. planning to buy the amp first, and ofcourse, i am confused!

any advice from you'll is appreciated.

My budget for the Amp is around AUD1500.

This amp will be for 80% movies and 20% music.

once i buy the amp, i will then buy speakers, gotta save for a month ;)

i was looking to buy the amp online from HIVIZONE.com, as they deliver to australia. (any other website if u guys know?)

i dont want to buy the amp from Australia as the cost is enormous...its almost 50% more!!! :(

AMAZON is good. but they dont ship internationally. i can use Shipito.com but then the shipping cost would be enormous!

okay the amps that i was looking at are:

onkyo tx nr 808
onkyo tx nr 1008
Marantz SR7005

i hope to get some serious advice here! any suggestions are appreciated.

cheers...

Stop, select speakers first!

Yash,

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your project.

However, you are approaching the system design in reverse.

1) Begin with the room you plan to use and establish your system budget. The room's volume and layout will help determine the number and size speakers you need.

2) Select speakers (not a small task, but the most important step) and should account for about 70-80% of your budget. This will in turn will help determine the power and minimum impedance capability necessary from your receiver or prepo/separate amp combination.

3) Then, research/buy the receiver or prepo/amp combination, as well as any needed source components (Blu-Ray, DVD, CD, Video Games, etc.).

Most modern day AVRs, have the requiste features, codecs, and connections necessary to build your system. They do vary in reliability, Auto-EQ system, and user interface quality.

Please provide us the room layout and dimensions (including height) and we can assist further.

I can not, but others may be better able to, help with specific AUS purchasing options.

Cheers,

If you plan on spending AUD1500 on an AVR you probably should plan on AUD3000 on speakers that deserve something like the SR7005, AVR4311 or the SC-LX83.

The 4311 seems to have the best specs and feature set in that price range aside from the 3008/5008. The SR7005 is new; specs are promising and great look (to me). The Pioneer has at least one raving review (HomeCinemaChoice) but it has Pioneer's own room EQ system while the others have the renowned Audyssey. It probably has the most dynamic power though not necessarily the best ACD output power.

For AUD1500, it narrows down to the SR7005.
