trying to set up my new yammy 1680 for the speakers its says pick A or B or AB? the book really doesn't really explain why. it seems to work on all those settings. I have a 7.1 system. also I can't even find where you set your speakers large or small.

For now, I'm going to assume it's the 6180.

How to manually set the size of the speakers is shown on page 82 of the owner's manual. To do it automatically, see page 32.

If you are only running one pair of front speakers, then just use the "A" speaker setting and plug the speaker wires into the "Front A" speaker terminals on the back of the unit. If you have two sets of front speakers, then plug one set into the "Front A" terminals and the other set into the "Front B" terminals, and then choose the AB setting. You can use the "B" terminals to run speakers in another room. Check out the manual for more info on that feature.

Make sure that the switch on the righthand side of the remote is set to "AMP" (page 102 of the manual).

Is the front of the receiver blocked at all, like say behind the door in a cabinet? I'm asking to see if the remote has a clear view of the receiver because the remote is sending a beam of light towards the receiver. Not trying to be patronizing! Sometimes people don't realize quite how a remote works.

I checked out the troubleshooting section for the remote control (page 118 of the manual), and there's a chance that you set the ID for the remote by mistake. To check that and set it correctly, look at page 110 of the manual for step-by-step instructions.

The user manual that I was looking at came from the Yamaha website. It was a PDF file. Perhaps you or I have a newer version.

When you reset the remote to the factory setting, that probably should have also accomplished what I was talking about.

Question for you - did the remote ever work for you?

good news just talked to my wife at work, they gave her another remote. and if that doesn't work the home theater installer will come over and give it a try. but I gotta say I watched a blu ray movie last night and what a differance from my HK7300. gotta say the yam.6180 sounds pretty good. should sound even better once I am able to set my speakers right.:D
