Need help picking up a good quality Turntable

Hi Earthlings!

I've had this itch for a while to switch to Vinyl from CD / MP3. After a bit of reading here and there, I've somewhat decided on the Music Hall mmf 2.2. Unfortunately, in India this is not officially sold and the retailers that sell it mark it up to USD 600 - 700. I would also need to pick up a good stereo amp along with floor speakers. I'm looking at spending no more than USD 1500 in total.

What I would like some help with is:

1. Music Hall mmd 2.2 will probably be shipped from US, without warranty. So even if the TT arrives in one piece, should I be worried about warranty?

2. Although Music Hall is not officially present in India, Denon and Audio Technica are available. So should I consider picking a TT from them (which comes with manufacturer's warranty?)

3. I listen to mostly classic rock (Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult, The Who and so on), classic metal (Judas Priest, Queensryche, Saxon, Diamond Head and so on) and a bit of old school thrash (Annihilator, Metal Church and so on). My prime objective is sound quality. How should I consider investing in TT + AMP + Speakers (I know one way to go is get the best of the lot, however how should I split the investment within my budget?).

Any help will be appreciated!

Pro-ject seems to have a distributor in India. Their entry level products look similar in style to the Music Hall so you may like them too. It is always better to have warranty of a largely mechanical unit.

I second Peng's recommendation for the Project as well.
