NEED Help Picking Out TV ASAP!!!!!!!!

Gentlemen:

I recently ordered a Panasonic TH-PX500U (the new model) plasma tv. I found out that this thing is on back order (unless I go to a major dealer and pay up a grand or two) for it.

I was wondering if any of you guys new of the model, and of you had any QUALITY alternatives (if it's not worth waiting for this one).

I have about $4,600 to spend for the TV (maybe a little more for something REALLY worth it).

Any help would be REALLY appreciated, as I need to make a decision quick if I am going to take another route.

If a Panasonic TH-42PX50U is acceptable, you might want to have a look at that one. I understand that the display is identical to the TH-42PX500U; it's just the additional features that differ. So, if you don't really need those....

In the past month I've noticed that several of the big box stores are selling the 50U for $2999.00 and the 500U for $3499.00 (with discounts up to $200.00 sometimes available).

I just purchased the TH-42PX50U about a month ago and love it. It is exactly the same as the TH-42PX500U only w/o the photo card reader & pip. Im not sure if the 500U has the seperate input box but if it does that would make it easier if you hang it on the wall (one cable to the tv.) I have been checking the price for the 50U for about 2 months and have not seen it any lower that $3600. I was a little lucky when i bought mine. I paid $4500 w/a $300 mail in rebate from Circuit City (the last day for the mail in rebate). The next day it went on sale for $3600 with no rebate. I took the receipt back and they gave me back 110% of the diffrence. I went ahead and sent in the mail in rebate and i got the check this week As for the picture quaility, I compared it against Pioneer, Sony, LG, ect... and it was the best IMHO (best balck level).

The Pioneer Elite is the best plasma you can get. I own a panasonic and am happy with it, especiall since I use an external processor. There is no doubt to me that the new Pioneer elite plasmas are better. Better glass, better black levels, 72Hz native rate VGA inout on the back if you want to send the native resolution...

It does cost more however.

You might want to check out the LG 50PX5D or 42PX5D. They are pretty nice sets and come with a lot of features. They also have a 60,000 hr half life and have a 2yr parts and labor warranty.

The pioneer plasmas are quite nice as well, a bit pricey though. I would also suggest on a purchase like this you should buy from an authorized dealer. It would be pretty nice to have the MFR warranty if needed.

Need Help picking out TV

You guys need to look seriously at the HITACHI DIRECTOR SERIES---they are
now using Fujitsu glass and are very underated---they also have a 1080p
processor in them. I would put these up any day against the PIONEER. And you can get in a 55" at about the same price as the new PIONEER ELITE 50"

I just ordered my Pioneer Elite 1130HD for $5,100. It ships mid month and I can't wait. I love the pioneer picture compared to the Panny, Lg, etc..especially in brighter rooms (for Plasma)

Just by coincidence (probably shouldn't say that, some people don't believe in coincidences ) I just received the current issue (Nov 2005) of Consumer Reports magazine and this 'electronics issue' lists the Pansonic TH-50PX50U and the TH-42PX50U as choices number-one and two, respectively.

I understand that they don't have the most sophisticated gear for technical evaluations but they do reasonably well in many areas and will generally disclose their methods/criteria used in their testing.

I have not read the article but just extracted this info from the rating chart (p.33).

Maybe Clint will get hold of some plasmas and do some evaluations one of these days and then change the site name to AudioVideoHolics!!!

What made you chose the Pioneer Elite, and where did you order it from? That seems like a fairly decent price. Do you finde the "glossy" finish to be a little cheesey, or is it a good looking set? I plan on going to check it out over the next day or so, but I am just curious to hear your opinion.

i just put in a TH-50pdh8k, Panasonic's 8th generation Plasma -i didn't have a Plasma before, but also have a Toshiba Direct view HDTV and a Mitsubishi RPTV, and i can saythe Panasnic is excellent... i spent a couple months looking and came to the conclusion that my own personal tastes , i liked the Panasonic over LAG and Pioneer (although the Pioneer was close) - (and the new panasonics are a bit brighter than the older ones).. they seemed more "natural"...
not sure when the consumer models are going to be out... soon, i guess... (mine is a monitor - no speakers or tuner)
