I am looking to purhcase a HDMI Reciever. I have narrowed it down to these units. With price not a factor, which is the best to get? Runner up? Why?

I prefer Sony as all my equipment is Sony, so if it is just as good as any of the others, I would like to know as I would probably go with it.

1. Sony STR-DA7100ES
2. HARMON KARDON AVR 645
3. Onkyo TX-SR604
4. Onkyo TX-SR674
5. ONKYO TX-SR804
6. Denon AVR-3806

Im really new at all this stuff, so any help would be much appreciated. :)

Receiver options

I think Yamaha, Pioneer, and Denon are your best options for a mid-fi receiver. Pick the model with the power and features you need. You won't find much or a following for Sony receivers on this site.

Did you look at the Yamaha HTR-6090? Looks like its almost a clone of the RX-V1700 for a few hundred less.

Its still close to $1000 though.

(I don't know your budget as I don't know what those other units cost, so don't get mad if this suggestion is way over your limit.)

I would go with Denon and not the AVR3806 but rather spend the extra cash and bump up to the AVR4306 instead as it has three HDMI inputs; converts analog video to HDMI output; upconverts analog video to 720p/1080i HD resolution and also passes 1080p signals. I have been an avid user of Denon products for over 10 years and have never been dissapointed. I currently own the AVR5803, DVD5910, DVD5900, and AVR4806ci.
Why Denon?
1. Construction/Build Quality- much better than Onkyo, Sony, HK by far!
2. 3 HDMI Inputs, Denon LinkIII, Ethernet, Ipod interface, XM satellite, mutlizone support and advanced Audyssey MultEQxt Room EQ.
3. Reliability and arguably the best guts and internal components on any mid-leve receiver on the market outside of the more prestige models.

Ok I know you are not going to like this and will probably get allot of static from other "sony backers" but I will not back away from my opinion----Stay away from Sony receivers, Personally they are pieces of $hit, you get what you pay for. When I think of Sony A/V equipment, I put that on the bottom of the list right next to the garbage juice extract. Sony Brand A/V equipment= "uneducted consumers that know nothing and get brainwashed by worst buy pimpled face employees and sell them overhyped, overpriced, overmarketed products" I don't really like anything from sony, bad experiences, plus poor build quality and
