How about neither? I think the Marantz SR-8500, Pioneer Elite 74TXVi, and Denon 4306 are better than both.

And as far as opinios go I think Yamaha RX-V2600 is better that Pioneer Elite 74TXVi. :p

Main reasons for my opinion are:
  • Pioneer does not have the possibility to change picture format to better (480i (/576i) -> 480p (/576p) -> 720p -> 1080i)
  • Pioneer does not have the possibility to adjust the volume level for each inout separately
  • Yamaha is cheaper (Locally (in Finland) seen Yamaha for 1149EUR and Pioneer for 1595EUR)

About the other mentioned receivers I don't have enough info, to have any opinion.

So why do you think Pioneer is better than Yamaha?

Dave,

Looking at the Denon, I note it does not have THX. I wonder why not...

Thx

Denon did not pay the testing and liscensing fees for THX on their mid-fi receivers. They do have it on their flagship models. I would hold features that you might use, like video upscalling, with more weight than THX.

Buy The Yamaha!!

I've owned an Integra 7.1 which had several problems and ultimately was replaced by Integra with a 7.4. It was such a pain dealing with Integra (aka Onkyo) to get a replacement, took over 4 months, several trips to the local repair shop, and two trips to the regional repair facility. After all the crap I delt with to get a replacement I vowed never to buy another Integra receiver.

During the time Integra was messing around with my repair / replacement, I went looking for a new receiver. I ultimately settled on the Yamaha 2500. When Integra replaced my unit with the current model, I tried to sell the unopened unit for far less than retail ($700) on several interenet sites. Unfortunately no one wanted it. As a result I still have the Integra 7.4 in my system. I wish I had the Yamaha, and when it comes time to replace the Integra, Yamaha will be at the top of my list.

Integra Vote

I've had an Integra DTR 6.2 for 3-1/2 years and it has performed admirably. Not totally sure, but I believe Integra bests your other choices in the spec department, lower distortion ratings and all that. Surround modes are definitely not equal to Yamaha though as far as variety. I A/B'd the Integra vs. Yamaha at a dealer and chose the Integra because it seemed to have a sweeter, more neutral sound. I heard some "noise" coming from the Yamaha, maybe some high frequency sibilance, but of course who knows whether or not some other part of their hookup caused that... One of my favorite features on the Integra is the Multi-Channel Analog Inputs. I often run DTS, DD and even regular CD through the M-C Analog rather than using the standard Digital Input. It cleans up the sound and adds more bass response too.

A friend of mine bought the Integra 6.5 bcos he said it sounds much better than Denon3805 and Yamaha2500. I was not impressed with Integra build quality bcos I had a reference Onkyo CD player (top loading) from Japan (paid over 1700CAD 11 yrs ago., and man it skips track even when it was only 2yrs old.....had to have it clean and etc...cost me $100 to maintenace it every couple of yrs....like a car....That's why I went with Yamaha 2500 bcos from Toronto Bay Bloor Radio store, the service folks told me they hardly get Yamaha receiver in for repair unlike other brands. I just love to compare these toys to cars mfg. like Toyota and Honda....

Denon may sounds 3.5% better to some people's ears, but I just don't like the look of them....Yamaha style is more of my taste. And that goes with the European brands like Arcam and Rotel, may sounds 10% better, but I would not pay 75% more in cost and they less toy to play with (features).

That's me. cheers:cool:

Now, I do not know about audio like most of you but reading the specs on the Integra 7.6 and the yamaha 2600, I noted that the Integra has THD 0.08% and the Yamaha has THD 0.05%. My guess is that the Yamaha is better in THD.

Are my right?
