Hi everybody, my first post...

PROBLEM SOLVED, BOUGHT A SURROUND RECEIVER! ;)
MY HARMAN KARDON AMP IS FOR SALE NOW! THANKS TO ALL...

Just waiting to receive a new set of speakers that I just bought online;

SONY SS-CR350H 2 REAR SPEAKERS + CENTER SURROUND SPEAKER.

My problem is, that I want to hook those speakers so I can hear the tv and dvd thru it and also, listen to my cd's on my HARMAN KARDON PM-635 AMP. There's no surround receiver here, just plain old amp. + JVC dvd player + cd player, so how can I do that ?

I'm a music freak and a musician, but when it comes to wires, I'm kind of lost, and I heard that the manual for my Sony speakers are very so-so! Help please...

Thanks and happy holidays!
Mike

You just bought two surrounds and a center for a stereo receiver?

Do you have another set of main speakers? I hope so.

As for your hookups, you just need to connect the red/white outputs of your TV and DVD player to corrosponding inputs on your stereo amp. Nit a difficult task.

If you have no main speakers aside from these three, I suppose you could hook the two surrounds to the right and left channel of your amp, either to the "A" speaker position or the "B" it's applicaple.

Don't be too surprised if the sound disappoints. The "add on" surround systems generally don't provide the best surround speakers because the demands on them are less than that put on the main speakers.

I have no idea what you can do with the center speaker. AFAIKT, it's totally useless in this situation.

The PM-635 does have two sets of speaker outputs and has four inputs for turntable, CD, video and tape. You could run the DVD into the video, the TV into the tuner (provided you don't have a tuner and if you do, an external source selector will be required) and if you don't have a tape deck you can use the tape input for the CD.

As for your speakers, you can run both sets in the speaker system one and two although they will still only be left and right versus front and rear. You can have your TV speakers act as the front channel but there's not alot you can do with a center channel speaker on that amp.

Thanks guys for the answers!

I forgot to say that, for now, I don't really care about the "surround quality" sound. My main thinking was (since my main speakers died on me), to slowly upgrade to a real surround system, by getting good deals on speakers, so I can watch tv/dvd with a better sound.

I don't mind NOT using my cd player for now, because I have a very good audio set-up on my computer...I just got a good used Sony subwoofer today, and I'll buy a receiver and two front speakers in a few months. With that known, are your answers the same? Would my center speaker be useful then?

Thanks a lot, really really appreciate your time!

Happy to help out! If your new receiver is a true surround sound model, then yes, the center will work for you since the receiver will have the connection for it. Enjoy! :D
