Audiophyte
Hi,I am building my first HT and need some input/advice. I am not an audiophile or looking for audiophile quality. I am want a good set up within my budget of $2000. I need everything from a receiver to speakers to cables.

The room measures 30L x 10W x 10H

I went into Best Buy today with the idea of building a 5.1 system, but now I am thinking about a 7.1 or 7.2.

I am not set on a receiver but I am looking at the Sony 7.1 STRDH720HP ($280) and Klipsch for all of the speakers. The floor speakers are KF-26($350 each), bookshelf speakers KB-15($150 pair), the center speaker is KC-25($250) & the sub is SW-450($470).

Is this a decent set-up or is it a noob move?

I know what your thinking, you are willing to spend more than a HTIB costs and want something that sounds as good as something twice its price...

I am in no way a professional , nor do I know a lot about audiophile quality equipment...

But I recently went through this, Check out the direct sales companies...

Emotiva-UMC1 $500
Emotiva-UPA500 $400
HSU STF-2 Subwoofer $319
5-Ascend HTM200se's $579 for B stock or $658 A stock
6 Tartan 6ft RCA cables $26 {not sure how far your sub is going to be, but 6 will get you to your sub and amp}
Not sure how much speaker wire you need but 14ga 100ft rolls are cheap...
Comes to a little over $1800....

I ordered something similar, I have all the electronics just waiting on the speakers... A lot of guys will say don't go with separate components, because of the cost, but in my opinion I like the idea of being able to expand with out having to sell my old receiver... And pre amp/amp setups look pretty sick on the rack...

Anyway, I cant wait to get mine hooked in, good luck with your choices..

There are tons of options out there, HSU has complete 5.1 setups {Hybrid 2 package in 5.1 for example, I had a chance to listen to them recently, very nice}, then you can go with a cheaper receiver to stay in your budget..
