Hi,

I am a newbie to the board. I tried to search so I wouldn't post a needless thread, but I couldn't find any answers. If I missed it, I apologize.

I am looking for a new receiver that has HDMI repeating. I want to take advantage of my PS3 and not use a HDMI passthrough. I want to connect it to my PS3 and my Samsung plasma. The catch is I am looking for one that is under $400.

Any suggestions and stores to use would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at Newegg, Electonic Expo, 6thAVe, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to the forum!

I think that there are a number of receivers that will fit your budget and desire for HDMI audio processing. Some examples are the Yamaha RX-V465 and RX-V565 (if on sale), and the Onkyo 507. There are surely others, but those are ones that I can think of at the moment.

The Audioholics Store is having a sale on receivers right now. I don't know the prices, but you can call them at 1-877-246-5427 to get the latest prices. I like Amazon, too, and they have good prices sometimes.

I'm not as impressed with this year's crop of receivers as I was with last year's. Companies are removing some flexibility from the low to mid-level recievers (such as assignable inputs, which I really like). The Yamaha RX-V663, which is a nice unit and a very popular one from last year, is being sold by a reputable member here for $325 at the link here. I know that you are new and don't know Phil, so I'm not pushing that on you - just wanted to let you know.

I would jump on that deal from Phil, a stand up guy for sure.

That is way too much money for a 254. If you paid that much it's ok, but on ebay and you can win an HK receiver that is repeating for 200, but there are issues with the receivers. I have one.

I would jump on that Yamaha it's a great deal and the receiver has a lot less issues than an HK, but if you are pushing the budget pick up a 254 on ebay.

Thanks for your help! I am thinking of buying a refurbished Onkyo TX-SR606 from accessories4less after looking through everything. After reading it seems to be the most bang for your buck. I have a 5.1 setup now with an older JVC RX-8020V receiver now with really old Sony Speakers. I figure I want to get a good receiver and then upgrade the speakers eventually. Is that a good choice for the receiver and anyone have any suggestions for some decent (can be refurbished) $300 5.1 speakers for now. I have the wiring in wall for the 5.1, I eventually would add the two back speakers but that is not a priority right now.
