first off I am new here.I need a new av reciever and could use some help.I am now using a sony dg500,sounds ok in 2 channel but sounds like an alarmclock with a sub on surround modes.sony claims 110/channel but every thing I have read says more like 35! Im pretty sure thats my problem b/c I have spent months messing with every setting on this thing and on my infinity sub.pioneers new line vsx-519 or 819 have all that I need, hdmi with audio and so on,but for the price can they be the watts they claim?Im wondering if Im going to have the same issue as the sony.I only need 2 hdmi and something thats close to the watts it claims, 200 to 300 $.I would apreciate any ones help or info. Thanks

Most receivers in that price range have inflated ratings for power. Buy a reciever with preouts that allow you to add an amplifier if you feel you are underpowered. At normal listening levels, most modern receivers have enough power. Most here feel like receivers will sound the same, and that money spent on speaker upgrades is the path to take.

Only flagship receivers will boast anything like the watts you are talking about. You will need a seperate amp to get there. Read some threads here that have discussed this many times.
