hey all,

i am trying to buy a new home system with a budget of about €2500-€3000. I am looking for a record player which i think would be the technics SL-1200M2K , an amplifier, 5.1 speakers, cd player and a dvd player.
I was also wondering, i keep most of my music on my computer, what would be the best way to send up a link to the system.

the system is mostly going to be used for music. i basically listen to rock (pink floyd, who, zeppelin, ac-dc, sabbath), classical, and also like some of the new psychedelic and prog rock bands. though i do listen to bits and bobs of everything, but mostly rock.

it would be ace if someone could suggest me where to start looking and what to make sure before buying.

cheers mate.

Hello musicmatch, welcome to the mad house! First off, your going to run into trouble findig a 5.1 amp/reciever/prepro or integrated amp that has phono in with a ground lug for a turntable. Most of the newer stuff doesn't assume turntables will be used. I could be wrong! but it may be out of your total budget.

First you'll want speakers, knowing this wil determine the right amplification if you choose for example 4 ohm speakers. Some I would suggest for 5.1 systems will be 5.0 and a sub later.

Emotina 5.0 system, ERM-1 and ERD-1 loudspeakers:

SVS 5.0 system (budget minded):

Aperion Audio pre-packaged systems:

http://www.aperionaudio.com/catalog/5-Series,36.aspx
http://www.aperionaudio.com/catalog/6-Series,37.aspx

And the list goes on and on for internet based companies, try Axiom, AV123, and other members for more suggestions.

For Subwoofers, look at Hsu Research, and SVS, if available in your local area, they are American Internet Direct companies.

If this system is mainly for music, wouldn't a stereo setup with a subwoofer serve you better than a 5.1 setup? Here is a nice 2.1 stereo receiver that will accept turntables, plus drive 4 ohm loads AND will connect to computers!

Outlaw Audio RR2150 Stereo Receiver

Here is a more expensive stero preamp that accepts turntables, the Emotiva RSP-1

Good Luck!

I am guessing by the Euro tag you are in Europe. Most of the speakers you can buy online would be very expensive to ship overseas. I would suggest you look at Jamo from denmark for speakers.

I would also get the OPPO 983 dvd player as it sounds great for cds and Dvd-a as well as SACD......Get a Yamaha VX-663 for the receiver and you are off to the races......Both would be about 750 US...

the thing is i like to listen to my records, and dont wanna part with them. and you are right abt the turntable not able to work on a 5.1 system, unless i dish out loads of dosh...
i was wondering if there is a way of having an amplifier which i could cross over when watching a movie or listening to music. for sure music sounds better on a stereo, except some disc which are 5.1 nowadays...
