hey guys, i need your help setting up my first HD entertainment system. i just bought a 37 in lcd Vizio tv model # VOJ370F, and an Onkyo 7.1 home theater in a box system model number HT-S5100. i also have xbox 360 the white one not the black. i also use the xbox as my dvd player for now until i buy another dvd player. my question is what exactly do i need to buy to hook everything together so i can enjoy HD gaming and movies for the first time. i bought a HDMI conversion kit for the xbox 360 from madcatz. i hooked up the HDMI cable into my tv and the optical cable into the receiver, it works fine when im playing games on xbox but when i put in a movie i only get sound. any ideas on that problem would also help me out alot.

I imagine the system came with speaker cables, and the power cords.

I know nothing about the tv, but if it has an optical out and you use the hd antenna. Get a toslink optical cable(monoprice.com) and hook that up to one of your systems inputs. Surrround sound for football is awesome.

Get the optical cable and hook that up to your receiver as well. I recommend plugging the hdmi(monoprice) into your receiver and running another to the tv if you plan to add components. Of course it doesn't really matter if you don't mind switching a couple of things to different inputs. Some prefer to run video direct to the tv. I don't have a TV so it doesn't apply in my case anyway.

The main thing to make sure of is that you place your speakers properly(dolby.com) and your subwoofer properly. It shouldn't be boomy.

Then run your auto eq setup thing. It will do almost everything for you. Make sure to run it during the day if you live in an apartment. Or your neighbors will complain. Also make sure you use the remote and quickly duck into another room(very annoying sound IMO).

After that you should be set.

So in summary get an optical cable for the tv and run your auto eq.
