Okay I'm getting close to having to run the wires for my new Dedicated HT., but before I run out an buy all my wires I have a few questions.

Current Setup:
Denon AVR-3806 (Receiver)
Denon DVD-2910 (DVD player)

Definitive BP7000SC (Front Towers)
Definitive C/L/R-3000 (Center Channel)
Definitive BPVX/P (Side Surrounds)
Definitive BPVX/P (Rear Surrounds)
Definitive Supercube Reference sub (Front Left)
Definitive Supercube Reference sub (Front Right)

Therefore, my question is:
Rather than buying all the fiber optics and multi channel cabling for SACD's
Should I just run the Denon D-link cable from my DVD to Receiver?
Does this one single cable do the same job as all the other cables? In addition, will my sound quality and dynamics be the same if not better for movies and music?
Will I still be able to achieve all the DTS 7.1 and other modes?

Thanks in advance
David G

DVD-A and SACD cable

David,
Make sure you have an HDMI cable from the source to receiver for HD video. All new players will also use the HDMI connection for SACD and DVD-A audio including the Oppo Digital universal players. The Denon link is proprietary so if you change your receiver or DVD player then it will not work. At the minimum I would run one extra coax that could be used for a Digital audio connection if necessary. It might be a good idea to run an extra HDMI in case you have a universal player and an HD-DVD or BluRay player in the near future.

I have found the cables from monoprice to be good quality and very reasonable prices. Test all of the cables before they install the drywall.

One cable that does it all, HDMI. The Denon link is not a necesary connection if HDMI is used. Also, SPDIF (optical or electrical) cannot pass SACD's DSD or Lossless sound from DVD-Audio).

Okay so Basically,
I should just stick to old faithful.
HDMI from Denon DVD to Denon Receiver
And the Multi Channel connections from DVD-Receiver for SACD
In addition, the Digital Coax from DVD-Receiver for movies only
What about my Play station 3 for Blue Ray movies? HDMI & Digital Coax?

The great thing about HDMI is it works for everything. When watching DVDs on the Denon you can use the HDMI to carry the video (upscaled of course) as well as the bitstream Dolby, PCM, or DTS tracks along with it. So only one connection needed for the DVD player. Basically it is the same story for the PS3, HDMI only, no SPDIF required (HDMI will yield better results than SPDIF because of the limitations of the SPDIF interface). So the PS3 will be sending out HD picture and sound up to 7.1 lossless LPCM.:D

So, PS3 to Receiver connections (HDMI), DVD to Receiver connections (HDMI), Receiver to Display connections (HDMI). If those are you only playback machines you will have three wires connecting it all. Not only is it simple, but you are getting about the best performance you can get.:D

fyi:

to the best of my knowledge, hdmi will not pass sacd's dsd bitstream. the dsd will be converted it to pcm before being passed through the hdmi connection. the only way to pass sacd dsd is either via multiple analog connections or via the denon link 3 (which, as we've discussed has it's + and -). you might wanna double check to see if hdmi can pass dsd, but i'm about 98% sure it can't.

EDIT:

i just downloaded the manual to dvd-3930ci. it states on page 12 of the english manual, upper left hand corner "The audio signals of the multi and stereo areas of Super Audio CDs are not HDMI output". Looking at the box in the middle right of page 11, it appears that SACD can only pass 2 channel PCM over the HDMI output. with the denon link the manual states that "Digital transfer is possible up to 24-bit/2ch for 192/176.4 kHz, 24-bit/6ch for 96 kHz or less". denon link will pass everything (sacd, dvd-audio, dvd-video, music cd, and video cd in it's highest possible resolution). you might want to just use hdmi for video and denon link for the audio. of course, if you change brands receivers or dvd players, you'll be in a pickle.

I am not positive about this, but it is an idea. Connect everything HDMI. Run the six analog cables for SACD. If your player is like mine, you have to select m/c out on the player, and m/c in on the receiver. I believe this would make the player and the receiver not use the audio from HDMI with those selections made. Again, this is only an idea.

david:

at first i didn't know what the hell you were talking about, but then i went to denon's site and saw that they're selling a premium denon link cable for $499! holy ****!!! that's a retarded amount to pay for a cat-6 (maybe cat-5) cable. just get a cat-6 cable from any store. you should get one free in the 3930 box.

as a matter of fact, i just looked at your 3930 manual and on page 3, it says a denon link cable in included. check your box.

I knew this from another forum. I did not try it as I have the original cable. Buy a 1m or 2m RJ45 Cat5 cable, it is the same. Or a Cat6 patch cable which has a better shielding. So it is claimed that it is a standard ethernet cable. Again, just trying to help with this information from another trusted forum (at least for me).
