Need help deciding on a budget receiver

Hi all,

I'm most likely going to be purchasing the EMP impressions speakers with my next paycheck, and I'm going to need a receiver to power them. These speakers have an impedance of 6 Ohms and sensitivity of 87dB. I'll also be hooking up an xbox 360, a cable box, and a blu-ray player. I want something with at least 3 HDMI inputs and the ability to hook up an iPod dock and display it on-screen. I don't need the new HD audio decoding capabilities because my blu-ray player has it built in, nor do I need 7.1 (5.1 is sufficient). Lastly, it will mostly be used as a home theater.

Also I have a question which is kind of important in my decision, since I want to be able to use the HD audio formats. What are the benefits to having audio over HDMI, and is it necessary in order to play the new HD audio formats? (note: my blu-ray player does not have multichannel out, only HDMI out). I guess I'm just confused about the concept of non-audio over HDMI vs. audio over HDMI and if it's necessary for using the lossless audio formats (when there is no multichannel out available)

Any suggestions on a receiver for my usage will be very appreciated. My price range is $350 (maybe more) but honestly whatever receiver is cheapest that has the minimum specs to handle what I've mentioned would be great.

Thanks!

After a lot of research, I think I'm gonna go with the Yamaha Rx-V465. It's the cheapest receiver that has everything I need. The only thing I couldn't find is if it supports 6 ohms impedance or not. I'm guessing it does but I contacted yamaha customer support anyways. Still waiting on a response...

do a search on here for it, a lot of people recommend it, thats how I ended up with it. Most places say its the best valued reciever this year. Same as 607, just minus some features that may not be needed. If you want it new (so you get the 2 year warranty, which is what I did) for only 15$ extra (because of shipping costs on the refurb) go to newegg and use code RECEIVER151. Sale ends 10/8
