Need Help Connecting Record Player/Turntable to Reciever

Hi,

For months I have been trying to fix a nice big Sony HiFi system as the tape player broke, but to cut the story short, my parents (whose HiFi it is) eventually decided that that they don't want it any more and despite my pleas so let me keep it to fix it they have taken it off me and are going to dispose of it.
However I have been able to convince them to let me keep the record player/turntable section of it (a Sony PS-LX43P) and I have worked out that all I need really is a preamp for it like this one to connect it to my reciever (which does NOT have the grounded record player input), I only want to do it cheaply as I only listen to a few records.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=28732&C=brilliant2&U=Cables&T=Phono%20Preamp#specifi

The thing is though, where do I ground the record player to it? If you scroll down someone asks the same thing but the response is the usual vague Maplin 'yes this product does support that' response that doesn't answer the question.
The player uses the usual proprietary Sony power plug that goes to the mian HiFi but I have worked out that with a 12V DC supply I can get it to run, it just leaves me the question of the ground lead (the middle pin); where do I plug it into? The casing of the preamp? Leave it?

I think the the fact that the tt uses propritary wiring and an exctenal power supply goes against most everyone's experience.

Now, had it been a "standard", stand-alone turntable, I'm pretty sure the answers would have flowed like water during a spring thaw.

But, then again, had it been that simple, I doubt you would have needed to post it. Such a conundrum...

The turntable is 12V-DC.(as you said)
Of the three wires, the one with the white stripe is 'Neg -'

The all black wire is Pos+

I'd leave center wire alone for now; try things out and see how it runs first.
It could be a ground.
A schematic would help, or checking to see what that wire is connected to inside.

The middle wire is a ground apparently - with that premap I linked to it says it does not need a ground but I don't see how that could work.

If you want to hook up the ground, just crimp a fork connector on it and put it under a screw that goes into the metal frame of your receiver.
